Avast issues

I have just downloaded Avast, saving me £35 on my usual McAfee subscription. However, there are a few issues that need resolving, so any advice would be appreciated.

If I want to go to Yahoo mail, I have to turn it off. If I want to go to My E-bay, I have to turn it off. I have to turn it off if I want to post on any chat forums (including this one). It's starting to look like a false economy.

If I don't turn it off and I log in to a chat page, leave it and come back, I have to re-log in. Yahoo mail just tells me my session has finished if I try to log in.

    It's all getting really tedious.

I have tried to set cookie permissions in Internet Options to counteract this but to no avail.

What do I have to do??

I'm running avast with default settings and I have none of those problems. What settings did you change when you installed it ?

You could try adding the domains you are having trouble with to the Web Shield Exceptions List. Remember exceptions are only for things you trust implicitly

I haven't changed any settings. After reading your post, I looked and I don't even know how to change the settings. I certainly didn't see the options to change the things you describe.

I have the free for home use edition. You're not describing the pro edition are you?

    Cheers.

Double click on the blue circle icon with the 'a' in it in the task bar and it will pop up the settings.

Click on the details button and you will see a list of the settings groups down the side.

Everything is on 'normal' setting so why do I have these problems?

    Example:

I am logged in on this forum. I go to reply to your post, I have to log in again. I then have to log in again. And agian.

Finally, I get so f***ed off, I turn Avast off so I can use the site like a normal person should.

Do you have a 'web shield' settings group in the Setting diaolog I just mentioned

Yes, and it is set on 'normal'.

Hmmm...I have been using Avast for over a year now on all of my machines (and recommended it to several friends). I, nor any of them, have had troubles like this.

You aren't using ZoneAlarm firewall are you? There is a conflict with it and Avast WebShield, but it should only occur if you are using the Pro version of ZoneAlarm.

I asked this question a while back:

If you are running ZA Pro, then read this:

If you need more detailed Avast help, perhaps head over to the Avast forum. There are helpful folks over there too. They have helped me a time or two.

I would also make sure all traces of mcaff are uninstalled, sound to me like a conflict, as I too have never had this issue with Avast. You may want to reinstall avast after making sure all of mcaffe is gone.
    good luck

Yes I am, and yes it is the pro version.

I will look into this. At the moment I have to run Avast with web shield turned off.

Didn't adding the single site as an exception work ? This would be better than running with no protection

I'll try again and let you know.

Still have problems getting in to Yahoo mail though. STILL have to disable the web shield.

This shouldn't be happening. I have Uninstalled McAfee to the best of my ability. I don't know what else to do.

Did you look into the solutions on the Avast site?

Not sure what else to suggest.
