Avast + Steam = False Positive??

Avast says that the hl.exe in the STEAM folder is a Trojan Horse.. Assuming this is a false positive but can't find anything on it...

Malware Name: Win32:Steam-AS [Trj]

File Name: C:\program files\steam\steamapps\scraca\counter-strike\hl.exe

Anyone else with Avast and STEAM?

 

I've been running Avast and Steam together for years. Never had this sort of problem. I'd guess it was just a false positive like you said. Unless someone else has another answer.

 

Get a second opinion from another anti-virus program, like Panda's free online scanner.

 

same problem, i'm really REALLY annoyed. i can't get cs to start anymore.

 

I had one false positive detection of hl.exe as W32:steam-as and it moved it to the virus chest-- when i restored it, it didn't detect it any other times.

I have same problem started yesterday. I have done multiple scans with other anti virus removal software and nothing is detected.

If you turn off Avast and start another anti-virus program you can use steam. I turn avast back on when I am done.

 

I've had problems as well with avast (it's too sensitive) every time i would download something it would tell me potental virus detected, So i started using avg anti virus and i had no more problems.
Just download and install avg anti virus (it's free).
