I have a computer running windows xp home edition. I have a total of 18 hrs into it. I have cleaned it out and as far as malware and other nasty stuff it's all gone. That I know of anyhow. I read the read me thread and cool added some stuff into my normal routine. I installed sp3 and a printer. Everything looked great and ready to hand back to its owner. I used it for a day doing my normal browsing (ebay and aol) really and searches to add plugins to mozilla. Then I noticed the little "i" for avast wasn't running. I uninstalled and reinstalled and to no avail it's not there and I can't find it. I am running a boot scan right now not that it’s gonna show anything. But I thought maybe that will trigger the VRDB. I had this happen a few times before but I can’t remember how I fixed it. If I am in the wrong thread sorry the whole thread thing really is new to me! I am fine at reading them not great at writing!;)

I assume you are referring to the icon in the taskbar tray?

Right click on the taskbar and select Properties. Uncheck Hide Inactive icons. Then click Apply and OK. If it is already unchecked, put a check mark to Hide Inactive Icons. Did the icon appear? Now Uncheck Hide Inactive icons and click Apply and OK. Did this work?

Another possibility is to check the Avast.ini file to see if you have merged icons or elected to hide it. See: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=1647.15 A thread discussing this a little is here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=2271.0

I have checked the ini file it is not there. I am sorry I forgot to mention I did all the basic checking problems. It wasn't merged it's just not in with the avast anywhere. This one is totally new to me! I haven't seen this one or answers to it anywhere! I checked some of the avast forums and they said it is not really needed and with the new avast5 it will be gone so hopefully the owner of the computer I fixed updates avast. It still bugs me what happened though! These people were complaining and wanted the computer back. They didn't even give me 5 bucks for fixing it!! I don't really know them. It was my husband's co-worker. Ugh I wish I new what that would of cost them if they went to a store or something and had it fixed! Anyhow yes no VRDB available anywhere in the system! Vanished

It's not the first time that I have heard this happen with Avast and it may not be the last. ;)
