Just uninstall it and try AVG free instead. It seems like something in the program's core is corrupted. A file was moved or something. I would just remove it, run CCleaner, and then install it again or try AVG free.

I like AVG better. Avast is right there though. Much better than Trend micro, Norton, McCaffee etc...those resource hungry anti-virus that just act like worms anyway.

No a professional doesn't suggest a different program when one hasn't even done simple things like removing it and resintalling, or what not.

    1 up for Colemanguy.

Try using the Avast Uninstall Utility here, http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html

    Then try a fresh install.

    EDIT re-start after the uninstall.

    And I quote:

I think I said it enough. Of course, if it was a full version of the program it would be harder to remove. We are talking about the basic free editions. Removing it and running CCleaner is good enough for me in regards to a free Anti-virus like AVAST or AVG Free.

Good, make sure your info is correct and you do fine here. If not, you will get pounced on by several members. Deal with it.

Your recommendation was to try avg instead of avast, not reinstall avast.

Well, he has options. remove the bad install, obviously, and then either try it again(re-install Avast that is, after cleaning up and restarting) or go for AVG free.

I kind've broke my post down wrong I suppose. I prefer AVG free personally, but AVAST free is superb as well. Why people pay for Anti-virus is beyond me. Free protection and knowing what the heck it is you are doing on the computer is all you need.

Unless, of course, you are a business.
