Today I did a normal scan instead of the daily boot scan and found these 2 items showing after the scan. Avast said it couldn't scan these items. Previously when I did a regular scan these items didn't show up.

    Name of File Result
C:\Documents and Setting\name\...\glaryini. Unable to scan Ar...
C:\Documents and Settings\name\...\Registryfile Unable to scan Ar..

So how can I fix it so that Avast can scan these two as well? Should I be concerned and what happened?

    Thank you.

Could be a False +ive. Send it to chest for a couple of days. IF the Comp works fine in all aspects then, one could either delete it, or you could ignore this threat in future scans, after restoring it from the chest. This post is more appropriate for the Malware forum or simply a Google search.

    Hi

Have you installed any new software of late?

Possible is that these files where in use and as such may not be scanned, so to work out if they are an issue, what is the full location and name of files?

Yes, I did install a new software program, it's Glary Utilities, so that must be the 1st on the list. The second one I don't know yet. I'm thinking that it could be Spybot Search and Destroy because I "immunized" it. Got to check that one out first and will let you know.

    Decidedly not.

The malware forum is for specific help aimed at one individual, with only enough explanation to carry out the cleanup instructions.

    Discussion is definitely out.

Oma, thanks for raising the subject, and your interesting research in the Avast forums.

Avast slipped up for me last weekend and let through several nasty trojans, one at least protected by a rootkit.

The PC is clean now but required some fancy footwork to manage this as there were 'locked' registry entries relating to 'Xanthic'.

The software forum is where many Geeks can discuss, and yes Avast produced a long list of files not scanned for me too.

    :cool

*agrees with studiot* besides, the only ones that would be able to post (on that board) are the moderators, the people that run the malware forum, and the "original poster". ;)

Since the area to fix the items were grayed out I assumed that it was not malware I was dealing with, therefore I posted here. ;)

The 2 items which I listed seemed to be remnants of the software Glary Utilities which I removed some days ago. I deleted them, scanned again with Avast and this time Avast didn't pick up any items.

    Thanks Halo!!

Here's another interesting link from Avast forum http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=3796.0 on how to run automated/scheduled scans on the free version. The thread is old though. Any brave ones who want to take on a challenge and see if it still works?
