I dumped Norton and installed Avast. Do I need to continue to use Zone Alarm?

Is Avast a firewall? Does it help controll spyware?

Will it automatically scan my PC? Or should I use it manually?

When I right clicked on my "C" drive to start the scan, my system hung the next morning. It wouldn't come out of sleep mode.

    Thanks.

Avast is an antivirus program. IF you aren't behind a router with a hardware firewall, it's a good idea to have one. Maybe even if you are behind a router.

Avast is not a firewall, keep ZA. It doesn't stop most spyware, read this and D/L the suggested programs: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=25834 It will scan to stop new viruses from getting in, but you should run a full scan at least every month, maybe more often. Did you restart your computer before scanning? It won't install properly until you do, and may not work properly.
