Avg 8.0.173

    Hi all.
    What the devil does this application do at start up?
    It takes a good two minutes to settle, using between 25 and 100% of the cpu in the process.
    avgrsx.exe and avgemc.exe are the two main culprits.
    I never had any problems with the old versions.
    But of course, they worked really well so someone decided to 'fix' it.
    Is there anything to be done?

    I stopped using AVG awhile back. I currently use Avira Antivir. Comodo Firewall Pro is also an excellent security software (firewall and a suite of other features).

    Mark, I shall try the changes you suggest and see how I go.

    mcsmc, I shall do the above but may follow your lead if my patience fails.
    I never had to wait more than a few seconds with the old AVG.

    Ah, but version 8 of AVG is not simply an antivirus as version 7 was. Version 8 is also anti-malware so that's why it takes longer to scan; it is looking for a lot more nasties.

    Oh alright, I shall have to learn to have more patience and sit still for a minute or so.
    At least I now know that it is behaving as it should.
