avg 8 problem

g'day all i hope i am posting this in the right thread anyway the problem i am having is i just loaded a new copy of windows xp home addition on a computer for a friend i formatted the computer and done a fresh load installing all the software she needed to go onto the internet. now i installed avg 8 anti virus free which i use on two computers here at home ran the update it downloaded and installed the update but it wont recognize them both the anti virus and anti spy definitions show up as out of date at the moment i have chosen the ignore status on the plug ins but i am not sure if the protection is working properly.prior to the format and fresh install of windows she was having the same problem with avg 7.5 could this just be a combatability issue or something more serious any input into this problem would be of great help thanx in advance tony

 

thanx for your reply plodr the update was done on first installation and i also tried it again through the update in the program it said it was up to date and there were no updates yet sill the program it self states that both anti virus and antispy definitions are out of date i just installed the program on my second computer at home yesterday with no problems its just happening on my friends computer its not the firewall as the updater runs and downloaded the first run updates it just doesn't recognize them
