AVG Free

Hi.
I used to like the old AVG Free but i'm not sure about this one (8).
It wont let me set auto update so my database is often out of date.
You used to just select auto update and that was that, now I select it but have to specify a time, what if the computer isn't on at that time?
Also, this stupid, in my opinion, link scanner, if you disable it you get a exclamation mark on the task bar icon so it makes you think something is wrong, like the database out of date.
If you leave it on it shows annoying spinny things until it has finished and then may leave a red question mark if the link is dead, it serves no purpose for me.
Why do people mess with something when it worked so well?
Time for a change I think.
What else is good?

I will uninstall and look for the options.
Oh yeah, another annoyance, each time it updates it needs a restart of the computer.
I dont remember the old one doing that.
