AVG install problem

Windows XP Home SP3 w/ all updates. AVG will not install. It gets as far as the screen shot below (right after the part where you can choose to install the Web Security Toolbar) and that's it. If I look at the task manager, AVG setup goes to "not responding" almost immediately after the window opens. Another thing: before this, setup reports that there is another antivirus application installed; there isn't. McAfee was installed, but I have run the McAfee uninstaller 3 times, I removed anything McAfee related from Add/Remove Programs, and I've run CCleaner numerous times on both the hard drive and registry. I have also manually gone through the registry and removed any leftover McAfee entries. None of this has made a difference. I tried installing in safe mode and it did NOT lock up, but apparently AVG cannot be installed in safe mode because it can't start certain services. But the fact that it almost finishes in safe mode tells me that it's something running in the background or maybe a driver(?) that is causing the lock up. Any ideas?

NEVER MIND!!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

I ended up disabling everything via msconfig in the start up, double checked it with CCleaner's start up manager. I then tried to install AVG one last time. Screenshots below.....
