    Hi All,

I had previously installed AVG free edition a while ago and when i was cking for updates it said this message when I downloaded your most recent avg..

    Local machine: installed successfully
    Installation:
Warning: Action failed for registry value HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Component Categories\{56FFCC30-D398-11D0-B2AE-00A0C908FA49}:409: creating registry value....
    Access is denied. (5)

I'm not sure what this means or what I need to correct it. Any ideas?

Hi and Welcome to the forum :)

Could possibly be another security program you have installed blocking anmy changes to the registry so could you tell us which security software ( eg. Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware* ( *paid full version with Ad-Watch ) etc ) you have installed and which Windows version you have.

If XP are you logged in as Admin, when doing this update?

I will move your post from the Welcome center and into the Software forum as it will get more views and opinions in their ;)

If you installed Spybot Search and Destroy, un-install it and see if you get the same error with AVG?

If it was this http://majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=20 your refering to I hope you didnt download them all as the header to each section stated how many to pick as I feel that one of them is stopping AVGs installer from adding an entry into the registry.

Please list what you installed and also what original security software you have installed, as problems can arrise if you have say more than 1 AntiVirus or Firewall program.

You may not have to actually run some of those programs as they maybe running in the background already in order to protect you.

i think that is my problem. I was under the impression that i needed avg on top of norton antivirus and webroot spy sweeper (what my pc came with). I also have the following on my system. aol, stinger, spyware blaster, avg free edition, reg cleaner, rootkitrevealer and highjackthis. the last two a friend put on there but ive never used them since i have no clue how to read them both. So from the sounds of it I need to minimize some of these programs...the question is ..which ones?

Ooo no, please uninstall AVG as two running antivirus applications will cause all sorts of issues and slowness in your PC as both will be trying to scan the same files.

The other software you have listed should all be ok working together as they are all on demand scans apart from Spy Sweeper but that shouldnt cause you any problems, so you can leave them.
