Please let me know whether or not I can delete these and be rid of them for good - the one from today seems to evading my attempts to put it in the vault.

Recent guests in the house decided the PC was theirs to use for their downloading pleasures, I will also upload a Pest Patrol log.

    Thanks in advance.

You can delete them all ...however, you didn't state which one is being a problem.

As you may have seen ...a few are in your system restore folders ..so you may wish to disable system restore / reboot and re-enable.

The trojan one is being detected by AVG Resident Shield but not by other (online) scanners.

    Are you saying I should:

    delete them
    Disable System Restore
    Reboot
    Enable

Yes...and then if you want us to look at your system:

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

For a long time I wondered why I couldn't do some of those steps in the guide; I may have found why for some but others are still not working/confusing me. I feel stupid because I once knew your XP procedure very well (I used it all the time for the littlest things).

Should I go through and just do the procedure or should I try and get the roadblocks out of the way?

TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

Do the procedures, as that will remove some of the "roadblocks." Then attach the requested logs when you are finished.

I'm unable to run MGTools, but here are my logs:

    Kaspererersky

    SuperAntispyware.

    Combofix.

Why can't you run the MGTools? Are you getting an error message and if so have you looked at the possible fixes for that error?

I had trouble downloading the file from the provided link; I tried it at work and got it fine. I've run the program and now I've posted those logs.

    Your logs look clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
    * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    OK, thanks.

I will adopt SuperAntiSpyware into my regular scanning processes along with Ad-Aware, Spybot, Defender (and Spyware Blaster).

I currently use AVG AntiVirus, ZoneAlarm and SocketShield for my virus protection/firewall/real-time protection needs; I also use Remove It Pro which I think might be outdated.

Until finding this Kaspersky online scanner, I have been using Panda, Trend Micro, and Bitdefender as my on-line scanners. For the longest while, I have also been using http://www.pestpatrol.com/pestscan/index.htm - Etrust PestScan but while it does say it finds Malware, I think it is incorrect as none of the other scans find what it picks up.

I am confident my Spyware programs and Virus/Real-Time protection programs are keeping me safe enough, should I only stick to one type of on-line scanner?

You have a good battery of protection .....I wouldn't go near ya if I was a virus.:D

You can use as many online scans as you like ....they are often good in that if they don't remove the problem, at least they tell you where it is.

But nothing protects as well as safe surfing. :)

I forgot to attach the PestPatrol log, here it is.

I will try the online scanners again. To clarify, I should run them with System Restore off?

If you have turned off system restore...turn it back on. As to the report ...I assume that it removed those items ...and two of them are from P2P programs, not unusual.

If you are doing an online scan ..I'd suggest doing a BitDefender scan: go to Bitscan link: agree to the license and then select Scan. DO NOT CHANGE THE OPTIONS TO SHOW ALL FILES SCANNED. That will make your logs huge and we don't need to see clean files. Once Bitdefender completes the scan:

Click-on the Detected Problems tab. Then select Click here to export the scan report

When the window comes up to save the report, change the Save as type: box to Text (Tab Delimited) (*.txt) and then in the File name box enter change to bdscan then click save. This will save a file named bdscan.txt in whatever folder you are currently in when you save the file (take notice of where you are at so you can find it later). This bdcan.txt file will actually contain HTML code that we can easily view later while reviewing your log. All we have to do is rename the file to bdscan.html.

The PestPatrol log must still be picking up the original d/l programs I wanted to get rid of in the first post.

The Bitdefender virus definitition update apparently didn't work properly and it told me so, but I made it scan anyway.

Trojan.Patched.BD seems to be located in a dll file. As I need to turn off my PC (the scan took all night), will the virus move as a result?

    Here is what was hiding....C:\WINDOWS\system32\sens.dll

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following:

Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.
    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Attach the log and tell me how things are running.

  19. BFLeigh

    BFLeigh Corporal

I hit Execute and an dialog box pops up:

Error: Invalid Script. A valid script must begin with a command directive. Aborting Execution!

What am I doing wrong, I am copying that quoted file location as you've typed it.

A belated thank you for all this, as I said, I'll configure my arsenal to use the new programs/scanners and keep an eye on things.

Good old AVG, just when I think it's not worth using, the Resident Shield goes off and finds something.
