AVG will not uninstall!

I am trying to fix my grandparents computer. AVG (free addition) is/was their anti-virus. It has not updated and run since Dec 2008 (ouch!). When I try to update the update downloads but does not run. When I tried to use CCleaner to uninstall i get this message... Installer initialization failed due to the following error:
Warning: Internal error. Dialog with id "WinFwDeactivationDlg" was not found in the setup.....

How do I fix this and get this program uninstalled so that I can run another anti-virus?

 

I think you probably have the older v7.5.
If yes - you will need to download the same version's installer from here-

Then run the installer. It will prompt for a repair/remove option. select remove and proceed.

If on the later v8.5 use the removal tool from here-

http://www.avg.com/download-tools

this is version 8.0.233

 

8.0.233 is listed in the link. Try Downloading the installer and run it. When you see a option to Install/Repair/Remove select remove.

This should work out..
