Hi, I had downloaded some avi files but none of them are playing whereas others like wmv are causing no problem. Do I need a special avi player ? Windows Media Player points out that codec was not able to be downloaded. I tried again by lowering the security to lowest. Still not working . Help.

Yes, it is true that you will need the divx codec (warning - the divx PLAYER is adware supported!) to play an AVI file in Windows Media Player. However, I would recommend not bothering with codecs at all!

VLC Media Player is a small, open source (FREE) media player that has just about every codec built right in! This baby has played every video file that I've ever come across. I rate this as a must have piece of softwre.

    Gee Thanks a lot,

The VLC player is a wonder. My files are all working now. Just one more request. I had a movie copied from a CD. The file has been all copied but the video does not play, even though the audio is playing. I guess something is missing. Is there any repair software for this sort of problem ?

    Thanks a lot again.
