AVI files and codecs

I have avi vid files and WMPlayer 11 requires a codec. However, I'm wary of codecs.

Any advice? What codecs are trust worthy? Convert the avi vids to another format?

What's the safest way?

 

There's no need to be wary of codecs if you get them from a trusted source, like here at Major Geeks. I use the KLite Mega Pack (link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/K-Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack_d5230.html) and it works great.... other packs can be found here:

I use Vista. Would you still recommend KLite or would you recommend Vista Codec Package 5.1.4 Final?

 

Both are good on Vista.
