Hey I have a bunch of .avi files that i want to convert to .iso files that i can burn onto a dvd..... currently i am using nero, but you can only do one at a time..... so i was hoping to find a program that will let me select multiple files to queue up so that i can just leave my computer on while i'm at work, and come home to find a bunch of .iso files i can just burn..... so anyone know of any?

I've had no problems queuing up multiple avi's (in this case TV shows) using NeroVision and after it does all the converting to resize them, the DVD is burnt and ready to go. BTW, I'm using Nero 7.

no.... thats not what i mean.... i mean making each avi file into its own iso file.... i know you can put more than 1 avi file into nero..... but that only makes 1 dvd..... i'm talking about making many dvds from many iso files from many avi files.....

I'm not sure of any freeware, but there's PowerISO, UltraISO, MagicISO. They're not free but I'm pretty sure you can put a bunch of files in at once to convert. For freeware, there's Folder2ISO (link: www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/folder2iso.cfm) and there's ISORecorder (link: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm). ISO Recorder is kind of cool 'cuz it integrates into the Windows shell so you can right click on whatever you want to turn into an ISO.... and here's a "how-to create a DVD using Folder2ISO and ImgBurn (or DVD Decrypter)" guide: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/burn_dvd_folder_dvd_decrypter.cfm You don't have to use DVD Decrypter (or ImgBurn which is more or less the same but w/o the decrypting part); you can use any software that supports burning of ISO images..... good luck! If you have more questions, feel free to post!

Every program I listed above will turn ANY selected folder (or file) into an ISO image. I've used 'em. They work. It doesn't matter what type of file or folder you choose, any of the above apps will create an ISO from it. You might as well try the two free ones just to see if they'll do what you want. Like I said, the free ones won't do multiple files at once (Folder2ISO might, I've only used it on one at a time), but you should at least try 'em on an AVI file just to make sure they work..... they're FREE! And the files are really small and they download quickly; so what have you got to lose by giving 'em a shot? ;)

alright, i'll try em when i get home.... just from the description didn't sound like they worked.... hope it can do more than 1 at a time because thats what i need.... if it doesn't work on more than 1 at a time i might as well stick with nero..... but thanks for the links and i'll try them out tonight...

Ok... Folder2ISO can't do more than 1 folder at a time.... you can only convert folders, not files....

i will keep this program for whenever i want to put files onto a dvd because this is a nice program for that.... but isn't what i was looking for in particular....

since i wasn't clear about this earlier i want the .iso's to be playable in a dvd player....

anyone else know of any programs that can do this? Thanks

The only way for an .iso to play in a dvd player is if the .iso contains the required DVD compliant folders (AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS) and those folders must contain the required .vob files, .bup files, and .ifo files in the VIDEO_TS folder; the AUDIO_TS folder is usually empty. If you create a folder (lets call it 'DVD') and put the AUDIO_TS and the VIDEO_TS folders in it, then create an .iso from the folder named DVD, and burn the .iso with your favorite image burning utility (ImgBurn is good; I use it regularly), the resulting DVD will play in your DVD player. Here's a link to some instructions that you may find a bit more clear on how to do this with Folder2ISO and DVD Decrypter (or ImgBurn).
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/burn_dvd_folder_dvd_decrypter.cfm
DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn are more or less the same, except ImgBurn doesn't have the DVD decrypting part; both programs have the same burning 'engine' and the steps to burn with DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn are basically identical. Check the link- IT WORKS! I've done it!

ok i burned the iso with alcohol 120 and it didn't work when i put it in my ps3.... are either of those other 2 burning programs different then alcohol?

I haven't used Alcohol120 so I can't be of any help there. ImgBurn is a free download and available here at MajorGeeks. I think it's in the BackUp section, if not, just use the Google search on the lower left of the MG front page. I'm not sure if PS3's can play std. DVD's... I'm assuming they can or you wouldn't be messing with all this. I wish I could be of more help here. I've used the steps at the AfterDawn link I posted above many, many times to burn DVD's and they've all played in my home player just fine (except for the few that were PAL and not NTSC, but that's my fault).....

I think you might be confused. An ISO file is just an image file it can not be played in a DVD player.

Hopper was trying to tell you how to properly create a playable DVD. Why would you create an ISO from an AVI file? Use one of the programs that hopper suggested and create the Video TS files from the AVI files and skip the ISO altogether. You can burn multiple AVI files at once with nero as well as multiple Video TS files.

    # MPEG-1
    # MPEG-2 (PS,TS)
    # H.264/MEPG-4 AVC
    # MPEG-4 SP

These are formats a PS3 will play. It will also play all hard media as in on disc. Your best bet is go with hopper's idea.

    Here is a link.

Yeah.... if I haven't mentioned it before, the AVI needs to be converted to DVD format first. Then you can make an .iso from the converted file(s). If you just make the .iso from the raw, unconverted AVI, it won't playback anywhere, unless you have a DivX compatible DVD player. There's tons of free programs that convert AVI's to DVD format: SUPER, AVI2DVD, ConvertXtoDVD, Prism, DVDFlick, MediaCoder, FAVC.... the list goes on. FAVC, MediaCoder, SUPER and DVDFlick are available here at MajorGeeks in the MultiMedia section. DVDFlick will convert the AVI (and tons of other formats) to DVD, it will create the .iso if you select the option, and it'll burn the DVD. It will be playable in your home player. Seeing as I don't know anything about PS3's, check the link above for info....
