    Hello,

Avira gives me constant notices of that Trojan in the windows/system32/winlogon.exe
    TR/Patched.CX.155

All browsers are redirecting and at times won't even access certain sites.

Anti-virus program and others won't update.

I followed read & run, hopefully well enough.
I'm attaching all logs I ran on Sunday except Combofix which didn't run for me. I have it saved to a disk if needed to try again.

Some things I read found were vundo and dropper.gen

Much thanks in advance for any help with this problem.:)

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to run the scans in normal boot mode unless that was impossible. But you did not say you cannot run your PC in normal boot mode.

Please run the scans again after booting inr normal boot mode. Also before trying to run ComboFix, make sure you redownload the current version to your Desktop and shutdown ALL protection software before you try to run ComboFix. If it does not run, please explain exactly what happens. Whether ComboFix runs or not, continue with a new scan using MGtools.

Thanks for your help! You have a wonderful site with tons of resources.

I ran all in normal except Combofix which still isn't working for me. Originally it wasn't working due to whatever is on my computer not allowing me to access the bleepingcomputer site. I went to one of the alternate downloads on geekstogo and tried to run it after I disabled my Avira. I got to the blue "preparing to run" screen (although It never stated that -it stayed blank) and it wouldn't go any further.

    Here are my logs:

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - (no file)
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\Run: [vowoyamira] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\peyuweli.dll",s (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')
    O21 - SSODL: DHYxQhOKq - {88864656-222C-ECFC-C716-5E8C8DD925FD} - (no file)
O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - (no file)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

After reboot look for all of the above files we had Avenger attempt to delete. If you still see them, delete them yourself.

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Floors Direct\Local Settings\Temp

Now run Ccleaner to clean out only temp files and nothing else!

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Sorry it took a little bit for me to have the opportunity to complete these steps.

I did receive an error deleting HKey_Current_User\software\microsoft\internet explorer\desktop\components\0 with avenger, but I was able to delete it manually.

My browsers are no longer redirecting and I am able to access sites that I couldn't previously like bleepingcomputer.

    Thank you very much! :)

Avira continues to give me TR/Patched.CX.155 notices and my antivirus still doesn't update.

    Here are my logs:

    Your logs are clean.

Where are the being found? If it is in any quarantine folder from the scanners or in the System Volume Information folder (which is System Restore) then it is not a problem.

What version of Avira do you have installed and what is the date last update.

    SloZoe Private E-2

    I'm sorry.

My Avira is version 9.0.0.387 and the last update is 4-26-09. It seems to be updating now.

The TR/Patched.CX.155 is being found in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe

Thanks again for all of your help.:)

Okay we will need to get ComboFix to work in order to easily fix this. Make sure to follow the below steps exactly.

First download and save the current version of ComboFix to your Desktop overwriting the previous copy. You can get it here: combofix.exe

If you have any problem running the below steps with ComboFix while in normal boot mode, boot into safe mode and try again. Make sure that you shutdown Avira as requested.

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run Ccleaner to clean out only temp files and nothing else!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

I had to run combofix in safe mode, hopefully I got everything right.

I'm attaching logs and Avira is no longer giving me TR/Patched.CX.155 notices. I think you have fixed the problems!

Thank you so very much chaslang!:clap

Okay now that we got the bad winlogon.exe file replaced, more malware has shown itself. Since you are having constant problems with ComboFix, we will use Avenger again.

Now run Ccleaner to clean out only temp files and nothing else!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

You're welcome. Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
