Good morning, I am running Win10 with all current updates.

Recently started getting a popup during the shutdown that delays the shutdown process 30+ seconds. the attachment is the dialogue box and also the file it references.

The .dmp file referenced is a zero byte file that can be deleted but regenerates with every startup. the file can be opened in Notepad but the font is, for the most part, garbled, except for the text in the dialogue which can be identified if you scroll down.

My primary virus protection is Norton 360 but I have three additional virus apps installed on an external hard drive and they do not run in real time so as not to interfere with Norton. Those are Malwarebytes, Superanti Spyware and Spybot. I run these manually every so often because all virus apps are not equal. Never had an issue before but there may be something new.

Any idea where this popup comes from and what I can do to permanently delete the recurring zero-byte file?

NOTE: While finding this I did see in a block of text referred to Search and Destroy, so Spybot may be the culprit, I will uninstall and advise

 

Spybot uses some Bitdefender stuff, which isn't an issue. There are three Spybot services. Set each to manual in their properties. Whenever you run Spybot update, it will ask if you want to let the update service to continue to run after updating ... tell it no. This might eliminate the shutdown display.

 

OK, I'll try that.

Uninstalled Spybot and the problems disappeared so that confirms the source of the problem. I will reinstall and edit services...
