We need some details please ;)

Windows version and Service Pack level.

    Recently added programs and hardware.

The minidump files that are stored after a crash would be most useful. C:\Windows\Minidump > copy the most recent 4 or 5 files there to the Desktop and zip them. Upload the zip file with your next post, see HowTo: Attach items to your Post.

Hi thanks for you help thus far, I went to the minidump folder and oddly it was empty. I have Windows XP and Service pack 3. I havent installed any new hardware or programs but I have downloaded some media files prior to the incident.

Ok, not all Windows installs are set to collect minidumps, see carrona.org for details on how to set yours to save them.

Ok, thank you. Now once I have done that what to do I do?

Once it's set to save minidumps, run the computer normally until it crashes again then reboot and go to C:\Windows\Minidump > copy the most recent 4 or 5 files there to the Desktop and zip them. Upload the zip file with your next post.

ok so I have been waiting on my laptop to get the screen again but I hadnt seen it however. I tried to do a system scan with Avira and it wasnt until the 5th try that I figured out why my laptop keeps restarting that I noticed I was experiencing mini dumps. Its happing too fast for me to see what the message is so is there any other way to find out what the problem is?

This article discusses how to disable the automatic restart so you can see the BSOD:http://vistasupport.mvps.org/disable_automatic_restart_to_read_blue_screen_messages.htm

It is written for Vista but the steps are the same for XP and windows 7.

When you get to see the BSOD we need the error message (something like IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA) and any codes on the screen (like 0x0000005C)

Also, if you can get a minidump that would be great.
