Took a small time camping trip for a few days in our tent trailer. Spent a couple of days at a friend's place on Kootenay Lake. He has a 26ft sailboat. We sailed to a place called Kaslo for a jazz festival. Not a huge fan of jazz, but the music playing across the water in the evening sounded really cool. Many small towns within a few hundred miles of here have music festivals. I'll post a list when my vacations over, so you guys can decide which weekend you're coming to BC to spend your hard earned money. After Kaslo we were off to Christina Lake. Two days there. I still have a hernia or damaged abdominal muscle (Doc's still not sure) so my wife was doing all the heavy work like lifting the coolers, setting up the tent trailer and packing water and fire wood. It was great!!! Some great force put me in my place however. We were bike riding on an old railbed and ducked off on a slightly technical trail (Doc said not to do this) to check out a waterfall. I turned to talk to my wife when a rock stopped my bike. I came forward off the seat and the stem of my handle bar glanced off "the right one" and dug into my groin at the point of hernia or muscle tear injury. You have no idea how much that hurt. Fortunately, no further damage.
The next destination was Rock Creek. The campground is about six miles upstream from there, and our plan was to park our van at the pub at Rock Creek, ride our bikes up a trail to the camp, then float down the creek on an airmattress for food and drinks. All went according to plans. It was a three hour float on a beautiful clean river on a hot sunny day. We changed clothes at the van then headed to the outdoor deck at the bar. The deck overlooked the river and was laid out with lattice dividers between each table that were thick with flowers and plants. You had to watch out for birds flying across the tables.By far the nicest outdoor drinking establishment I've seen. Still got a week left so we're of to our friends place at Tie Lake for the rest. It's only thirty miles away.

Man.........That sounds heavenly. Except for the little jab in the hernia part.

I should drive my son's Motorhome up there, but the gas from Houston to your neck of the woods would bankrupt me. But it sounds like a superb place for an old retired guy like me to visit for a week or two.

There wouldn't be any "reasonably priced' golf courses (public) in the area would there? Pardon my envy.

Spent many a summer hol at the provincial campsite on the Kettle River at Rock Creek there. Used to go down to the pub to watch the hummingbirds over a pint or two. Never did the floating thing, but I used to drive the kids up river to a place...I think it's called Westbridge, and drop them off there. Then down the pub to wait for them to float down the river. Good times.

MrP, Westbridge to Rock Creek is about a six hour float, and you sat in the pub waiting for them, you gotta love those parents on vacation.;) :D

Ther's probably 20 golf courses within two hours of Cranbrook. Some are high end. For 18 you're looking at $25 to$100 depending on the course. Besides the link here there's a bunch of par 3's which would be the cheaper ones.

Maybe not. Go past the Kettle River campsite on the way to Beaverdell and at some point the road veers left. There's a railway bridge over the river, and a convenience store on the corner. That's where I dropped them off. I don't remember it taking them six hours... Maybe, I was in the pub after all, and we all know what that can do to memory. :)

That's Westbridge. I've never floated from there. The trip is probably closer to 4 hours without stops, so I'll let you off the hook.;) As long as your kids turned out ok it doesn't really matter anyway, right?
