Loaded up the 4X4 and went backroad camping for vacation this year. It was about eight hours drive to our starting point, a town called Seymour Arm on Shuswap Lake. Sixty year-round residents live there. No electricity. They have the best beach on the lake. We camped there for a few days, before heading into the bush. We planned three main backroad trips with maps and GPS all prepared and they went off without a hitch. After a visit with good friends at their cabin on Deka Lake, we had a couple of spare days so we picked another road off the map without any planning. No co-ordinates entered into the GPS or preconsulting between myself and the navigator. It took us five hours to cover two hours of bush driving on four wheel drive roads to get to our destination. By then it was dark and pouring rain, so we said screw it and went to our daughter's house in Kelowna. It wasn't until we got back home and I went over the maps on my computer that I noticed the wrong turn that we took. Although we were never lost because worst case scenario we could follow the GPS back to where we started, it was a good lesson in doing these kinds of activities without proper planning, and the value of a GPS.
Aside from that day we had beautiful hot weather and the best lakeside campsites. Here's a few pictures.

Really nice pics! Love the country side but the mosquitoes and everything that flies and bites love me much better. Great that you had such a good time.

Because we are discerning young women??? That's what you meant by that, isn't it? :-D

I do love the photos though in all seriousness. The lake is beautiful.

    Oh yeah, that's what I meant:-D.

@dyamond. You have worse problems than no electricity. Those heels will never work on the beach:-D

I've uploaded more boring pics here if anyone's interested in a slide show.
