back up data error cyclic redundancy check 0x80070017

    Can anyone help with this error. I have vista home premium laptop. Every time I try to do a backup to a DVD I get this error: back up data error cyclic redundancy check 0x80070017
    The laptop is Toshiba Satellite A305
    Windows Vista SP2

    Try another brand of DVD and/or clean the DVD drive.

    Which program are you using to burn the backup? (I'm wondering if there is a possibility to write the data to HD first? Then worry about getting it to DVD.)

    Plodr is right that most likely it is a failing DVD writer.
