    Hi, from a newbie.

I have recently found a Trojan - well, AVG found it. I've searched and there's no information on the variant.

    Trojan Horse BackDoor.Ircbot.FOK

There's plenty of information on generic Irc bot type stuff, all of which is pretty bad. I am on an Asus laptop, running XP SP2, with AVG, Spyware Doctor, Adaware and Spybot S&D - all of which return no errors/infections (except for AVG, where the trojan is in the virus vault).

I have downloaded hijackthis and done a logfile.

    Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

OK, many apologies. Am in the process of reading help files and found I've majorly put my foot in it. Tres embarrassed.

There's no way to edit my post? Please, delete this if need be.

    Hi and Welcome to Majorgeeks

Done on edit and do continue with the full guide and when finished attach all the logs, as soon as they are posted one of our malware experts will be able to review them and issue you with some instructions on how to remove the malware pest,

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

    1. If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
