Backup an Application

Does anyone know of a method for backing up software applications that are not stand alone applications. Say I need to reformat a computer but there is special software installed on it. In this case copying the folder in "C:\program files" and pasting into the new freshly installed would otherwise cause the application to stop working.

I'm not looking for a total disk back up imaging software, just a method for migrating software.

Thanks if you have any input.

If you are backing up software that DOES NOT write info to your Registry then just about any backup software should be OK. If it does write to the Registry then it is not much use backing up the program alone. As long as you have the installation download/CD/DVD, you could probably back up the data part of the program. Then re-install the program and reload the data.

The best way, of course, is to do a FULL backup of the drive, but you already know that. Sorry I cannot be more helpful. Other MG'ers will probably provide better info/advice. Bazza
