I know win7. has a Backup program and you can have it set to backup your stuff at times that you wish.

Like once a week or once a month or whatever you want.

But if you set it up to backup things say once a month does this meen it will be running in the background all the time and slowing down the system?

When you setup the Backup Program, you would set it to run at a time when the computer is not normally in use and leave the computer run during that time so it can complete the task.

Using the computer during the backup process may make changes to files that are being backed up causing a disruption of the process.

Is it backing it up off your hard drive? If not and your computer crashes the backup could be useless. Get a second or external hard drive and back up the "save for life" stuff like photos to a DVD. Hard drives fail. Always.

It would just be the scheduling service which is probably already running. Adding tasks to it does not increase it's demand on resources other then when the scheduled tasks run.
