I'm gonna reload my machine, it's gone a bit wonky.
I used that built-in Windows 7 back up to back up my information to my 1TB western digital external drive.

Now, in doing so it made a system image of my C:
I looked to see if I could just pull files off, but it's broken up into different folders.
Am I just supposed to restore the files when I'm ready, and it will just put files on my desktop, or will it put them back where they were before?

I've never done back up like this before, and I want to get a few things more organized this time around, all my files in my documents, a few things not installed, etc.
    Help please,
    Spock96

There's an easy to follow step-by-step HERE. Hopefully it will answer your questions, but basically if you restore your system image then everything, including the problems you currently have, will be restored. However you can choose to restore selected files only and in that case you can restore them where you want.

I looked at that link, the walk-through thing is greyed out.
I chose to let windows chose the files, can I still select certain files, by selecting "Manage space used by this backup". Then select Restore my files, where it lets me choose the files?

That's a shame as I'm not able to give you specifics myself as, after taking a look at Windows Backup and Restore, I removed it and stayed with Acronis. Hopefully someone who does use it can advise.

Just an afterthought - have you tried the guide in a different browser? That should work.

I tried it in FF before I made that post and I'm making this post in IE. Still greyed out.

I see from your other thread that you are reinstalling 7 and after that you should be able to access the how to and find out how to restore your files from your backup. You won't be using the system image at all, just the file backups. If you used the default option of allowing the program to choose which files to back up you should be able to retrieve most of what you need but all your software will need to be reinstalled as you cannot recover installed software from a backup.

I redid my back up. Went into settings and turned off the system image option.
    Reinstalling now. Hopefully this works.
