ok, i have an older gateway computer 60 g-byte h/d (it's a new one), and a 80 g-byte secondary drive. i just purchased an iomega 80 g-byte usb drive (external) that came with "iomega automatic backup 1.0.2". is anyone familiar with this? also, i just got norton ghost 2003 for free. i got it for free with purchase of my iomega drive (it took a week to get here).

    so, my question really is.

iomega's software really just backups up what folders you specify (everything). (from what i gather)

what does norton's ghost do? i've heard alot about norton ghost, saying it's really good, but i'm not really sure of what i should backup? (.bak?, etc.?)

i've heard of creating an image, but what does that intail? (sp, and/or grammer)?

fyi, if i want something important, then i do back it up (ie. pictures, songs, etc.)- sos

the ghost pretty much makes an exact copy of the other HDD :)

most people, will ghost a fresh install of windows, so if they have to do a reinstall it will only take a matter of minutes to get their system up and running the way they like it. you can ghost a image of your hardrive to DVD's if you have a DVD burner or CDs or another hardrive.
You can ghost a drive anytime you want. Personally I use Ghost 9. and image my C drive every other day that way if I get a virus or some other problem I can revert to a very recent drive image.
All you really need to do is read the help files, I know it's a pain, but they really do help. Norton ghost is one of the best programs you'll ever use.

    good luck.

thx, i guess i'll just have to play around with both of them. it just seems a little wierd (to me at least), that iomega would have their software on there, and then also offer a free copy of norton ghost upon registration of their product. anyway, whatever. - sos
