So the last little while I've been thinking about Netflix and the possibility of buying a Blu-Ray player.
Now it's very rare for me to buy almost anything without researching it first, especially electronics.
This is a rare occasion I thought "You know what, all I want is a BR player that hasDVD upconverting and netflix"
So I didn't bother looking into it much.
Went into The Source just up the street from where I work.
Say to the guy "I'm looking for a BR player with netflix etc, I don't really care about the BR atm because my TV sucks, but I'm thinking for the future, so right now I'm most interested in Netflix"

I point to one on the shelf for $99 on sale, he tells me about this other one on for $79.99 with a higher MSRP so better value.
    Awesome.

So I get home and set it all up, turn it on and head online, no problem.
Except I can only seem to go to 3 sites, Weather/Tube/Picasso.
Spent a couple of hours trying to figure this out and update it etc.
I eventually learn through the net that this player does not support Netflix or any other sites except the 3.
I mean really? I ask for Netflix and it does everything but?.... man when someone comes in to my work and asks for a pair of winter boots, I don't try and sell the sandals, what the hell??
So I keep reading and come to the conclusion I should get one with a Smart Hub instead of just Netflix.

So I head back to the store today.
We laughed about the mistake and I mentioned a couple of sarcastic things while still laughing :-D
So now I want a different player that their website said they had 2 in stock.
This model does it all including 3D, so well future proofed.
Ok he says I'll go find one.

He comes back and says, "All I have is the 2 display models"

So let me get this right, the online store includes display models.
So I say "Ok what price will you do me on one of those?" ($169.99)
I also needed a component cable and an Ethernet cable which combine to $48.
The Manager was standing nearby and walked over to say "We don't make any money on those so I can't reduce it"
Now I know at this point, chain store = No Haggling.
They would rather lose the sale in most cases.
So after attempting to get the cables thrown in etc I eventually just settled for it all at full price because I couldn't be bothered.

So I get this player home, plug it all up.
HEad online, awesome, can browse whatever basically as far as I can tell and more importantly onto Neflix.
Activate it on Netflix and start browsing, flick through some movies, all works fine.
Throw in a DVD, works beautifully!
I bought Pirates 3 on BluRay yesterday, so I threw that in......
    .....
    .....
    .............This Disc Cannot Be Read.....ffffFFFFFFFFFF!

So I clean the perfect disc that worked just fine in the player that didn't have netflix yesterday, try it again...... and again....... anad again.

So I look online, do some updates and still get the same error.
Bare in mind this is the only BR I have lol..... But it worked fine yesterday in different player!

So I end up phoning Samsung.
    He's a cheerful man.
    I enjoyed talking to him.
He started the conversation with "Phone number please"

So he instantly annoyed me since he literally said that first.
I stay calm on the phone though, so I had to register etc.
    I then explained the problem.
He sarcastically said "So your problem is 1 movie wont work?"
Sarky bark, so I replied with "That's correct, I only own 1 and it worked perfectly in the player I used it in yesterday"
He says "Well I suggest you try another disc"

    Very helpful.

After I hung up I thought I'll grab a different movie tomorrow.
Then I realised the Pirates Movie has a BR bonus disc, so I excitedly throw that in hoping it's just the 1 disc.....
    .......
    .......ffffffFFFFFFFF!

So then I think that it might be this pack, so it comes with the DVD too so I throw that in....... perfect. No issues at all.

So I'm a little annoyed right now and am basically just venting.

For those of you confused about the title, it's something I said to my girl.

I'm the only person in the world who can buy bacon with no meat on it (true story, Smithyville prepacked, 99% fat) and a Blu-Ray player that doesn't play Blu-Rays.

    FML :-D

I wouldn't touch The Source(ex-Radio Shack) with a ten foot pole. A demo is considered stock? Hmph. rolleyes

Its amazing what you can get away with if you laugh while your saying it.:-D

"Ned you know the disk's you need the printed side at the top.:-D You know I'm just messin with ya:-D But yeah printed side up:-D"

    :-D

That's some bad luck, only thing I can suggest other than go back to the store with your tail between your legs, AGAIN!:-D Is to check the region code's for your BR player and the Disk.

@Auggie.... Normally I don't, I only ever go into the Source if I need something simple like batteries or some such and only because it's a 2 minute walk from work. But I had already convinced myself I was going to buy one before I even got in the store lol

@Rikky... :-D Yeah that's the kind of idea, good old English Sarcasm ;)
As for the region, I did check that and it's all good, the player was clunking quite a bit trying to read the discs so it's just my bloody luck.

So I took it back today, can't really blame them for a faulty product.
So I went round the houses and came soooo close to just buying a PS3 lol
Then I thought about buying the $80 one that doesn't have Comp connectors and buying an HDMI-Comp converter for $40 and then I thought but thats $80 for player and $95 for cables which is just lame.

So he has me the same player $169 one, comming in on Monday, offered me a refund or store credit, I said I'd just take the faulty one home and play with all the other features over the weekend lol

So hopefully the replacement will work as well as the user reviews say it should.

Thanks for the story Ned, I needed the laugh. I liked the effects.
I've been having the same problem trying to buy lowely plumbing fittings.

I agree, but you still need a less than captive audience to pull it off. They get the "Hey" moment a couple of hours later.
