    Yesterday my friend bring some CDs home, and after he left, I saw the antivirus was down (Avast Free), I see winupgro.exe and some numeric process like "311171.exe" running in ProcessExplorer, I searched the web and tried several "solutions" with SpyBot, RootkitUnhooker, Malwarebytes AntiSpyware and others but without succes.

    I've read somewhere that this is some serious trojan and that I should change all my passwords and kill my creditcard, Is this true?
    I don't know what to do or who to trust, so, here I am, hope you can help me.

    I followed all the steps provided in the thread READ&RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal, this were some incidents:

    *Emptying Recycle Bin - Cannot remove folder Dc2:The directory is not empty

    *CCcleaner won't run.

    Then followed the Windows XP Cleaning Procedure:

    *SuperAntiSpyware won't install, even renamed gives this error: SAS.exe is not a valid Win32 application

    *ComboFix won't run: same as SAS

    All other steps where completed, I'm attaching the logs that I got.

    Thanks in advance !

    If you do any online banking, you should use a different computer to change your passwords. You may also wish to call your bank and credit card accounts to alert them to look for suspicious activity. ( I don't think you are compromised, but safe is better than sorry).

    Now, Please use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    Java(TM) 6 Update 3

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now we need to make sure we have killed it, so download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Now see if you can run the other scans and attach the logs if you can.

    Now download and install:
    Java Runtime 6

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

    Hello Tim:

    Thanks for replying,

    - I've uninstalled Java(TM) 6 Update 3 succesfully.

    - When running MGtools/analyse.exe HijackThis appears for about 3 seconds and then it closes, the following processes appear in processexplorer when this happens:

    347281.exe - with a blue and red icon that looks like a mailbox

    355656.exe - with a set of keys for an icon.

    When I kill'em they stop popping up but analyse.exe won't run anyway.

    Should I keep going with the rest of steps ?

    Hi:

    Sorry to add a new post but It seems that I cannot edit my previous post.

    ------

    I've logged on with another user and could ran analyse.exe succesfully,

    removed all entries except the first one which doesn't appear.

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [drvsyskit] C:\Documents and Settings\Pelo\Application Data\drivers\winupgro.exe

    - fixME.reg gives an OK message, succesfully entered into the registry.

    - avenger won't start not even renamed: "avenger.exe is not a valid Win32 application."

    Just attach the new MGLogs.zip.

    Are you still unable to run COmbo? Is it on your desktop as it should be?

    Let's try this:

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    o If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    srosa
    srosa2
    winupgro
    DOWNLD

    File::
    C:\Documents and Settings\Pelo\Application Data\drivers\winupgro.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Pelo\Application Data\drivers\DOWNLD
    C:\Documents and Settings\Pelo\Application Data\drivers\srosa2.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\mmmnosod.dll

    Folder::
    C:\Program Files\AVG
    C:\Documents and Settings\Pelo\Application Data\drivers\DOWNLD

    Registry::
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "drvsyskit"=-

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\rasrad32

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000]

    [-[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000]

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    You need to try running SAS, MBAM and combo on the other account ( assuming it is an admin accout).

    Please attach what logs you can get.

    Re: Bad infection, help needed ! winupgro.exe, Srosa, Rottkit Bagle, Trojan AgentSpam

    Hi, just finished:

    From the admin account,

    - Tried SAS, it installed, but won't run: "not a validWin32 app", from the alternate start it simply doesn't open.

    - Malwarebytes seemed to run OK, Cleaned 9 objects, then asked for a reboot, done that, then updated mbam and runned it again, it said all clean.

    - Reinstalled SAS, runned it, cleaned 57 file items,

    - Runned ComboFix, ran OK, deleted a bunch of stuff.

    - Runned MGtools.

    More data:

    Avenger still doesn't work, "not valid Win32 app", now, affter rebooting neither does SAS, same error.

    When dragging CFscript.txt to ComboFix, nothing happens, try it again watching process explorer and it starts but goes down the next second.

    HijackThis (from user account) now shows for a longer time (about 8 seconds) and then goes down.

    winupgro.exe still shows in process explorer.

    Here are the logs:

    Your logs are indicating one driver that is difficult to remove.

    Copy the bold text below to notepad.

    Now try running the scans again and then run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file.

    Re: Bad infection, help needed ! winupgro.exe, Srosa, Rottkit Bagle, Trojan AgentSpam

    Your logs are finally clean. You still need to download and install:
    Java Runtime 6

    As well as delete:
    C:\Program Files\avg
    C:\Program Files\avast4

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)

    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
