Seems like I'm not the only one having trouble with their onboard audio for an ASUS product. I've been on the phone with tech support for 3 days tryin to figure this crap out and this is the second post I've made on this website. I have an ASUS P5K-V motherboard. I got it all up and running with XP and Everything seems fine. No other Problems really. I go into device manager, and there is no sound device. There are legacy audio drivers, Legacy video drivers, you know crap that's always there, but no sound device. I've done all the windows updates possible and I've got the KB888111 thing installed. I've also uninstalled it and reinstalled it four or five different times. As well as the drivers. Here's the weird thing though, I put in the cd, and it tells me there are no drivers installed for the sound. I click to install them, it tells me to reboot, I do, and they are still not installed. I posted on this site before and musksnipe told me to do this

This is the audio driver for that board from ASUS
Realtek ALC883 Audio Driver WHQL V5.10.0.5391 for Windows XP & 64bit XP.

    Realtek can be stubborn.
You might want to follow through these steps and perform any that you are able to, before installing your driver.

    1) Uninstall the Realtek software through Add/Remove Programs (if it's installed but not working)
    2) In Device Manager, remove the High Definition audio device (or the unknown device, if there is one) under Sound, Video & Game controllers.
    3) Go into Device Manager>System, right click the UAA Hi-Def Bus driver.
Disable the device and then uninstall it. (Do not re-boot yet)
    KB888111
If you install, remove, and then re-install this update, the update is no longer listed in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. Therefore, you cannot remove this update from your computer. To work around this problem, follow these steps.
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KB888111 (may be in SP3)
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    4. Click Yes, and then exit Registry Editor.
Run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.

Install your driver, then do a complete shut down and re-boot.

I replied stating that his instructions didn't work, and he has not yet gotten back to me. Customer Service at ASUS told me my board was fried, and they couldn't help me. Is this the case? I would hate to have to RMA the thing after I got everything all hooked up. Any other suggestions?

Oh and in my device manager, there are 4 yellow exclamation points next to Primary IDE Channel, Primary IDE Channel, Secondary IDE Channel, and Secondary IDE Channel But my IDE hard drive, and DVD drive are both in working order. Don't think that makes much difference, but there it is. Hope you guys can help.

Sorry, I must have lost you somehow. Of course it's always possible the chip is fried, but it is more likely a driver problem. I'll re-find your driver thread and get with you there and leave this one open for the Hardware guys.
