Hello Everyone! I need your advice or opinions.

Doing a new built and have installed a Corsair HX 750W and I am getting a value of 12.492 on the 12v rail, as reported by Gigabyte software Easy Tunes 5.:(

Am I correct, that the outside limit should by no more than -+ 5%?:confused

I am wondering if the software is putting out suspect readings.

I also have a good volt meter, which I may have to use.

BTW, this PSU is a Silver Edition, so I would say that it is a high end unit.:drool

    Thank you for any helf!

Check your PSU voltages in the BIOS

I have the TX750W and the voltages for the 12+ rail in the bios are 11.92-12.06V

I think both PSU's are the same just one is modular and one isn't

PClover, thank you for the suggestion! I just read that the BIOS and software values are suspect...:cry

I will do it anyway, since my recorded levels are too close to the minimum specs...:cry

BTW, PClover, great choice for a PSU! :yum You must have done your research...

Checked the BIOS and it reported the same number as the Easytune software...12.492v:cry

I will have to get out the mult-meter...:-D

    Not a good sign

I would check it with a multimeter on the 12+ rail and if it comes up the same then RMA time

Well I wanted a high quality PSU that's 750W to run both my GTX 275 and 9800GT and Corsair is an awesome brand :-D

    EDIT:

If the Voltage is ok with your multimeter your mobo could be the problem.

I got a BFG GTX 275 also, after RMAing the first one...

Oh boy, now I have to worry about the system board! I will run a check tomorrow and report back to you...

I did not know, but that PSU we own have no 5v rails....:confused

Not possible. 5V is needed to run some motherboard components, the DVD-ROM drives, the hard drives and any peripherals you have attached. Some expansion cards are also 5V

Blueice ----> :confused <----- it did in show on the BIOS, rather strange...

    Yellow wire --- 12v
    Red wire --- 5v
    Orangewire --- 3.3v

According to HardwareSecret, there is no good way of testing a PSU at home, without an expensive and elaborate setup..:cry

I do have a Seasonic, that I could swap out..I will do that as a last alternative...:p

Did you check the 12+ rail with a multimeter?

PCover, I have not done so, because of this....

Installed a Seasonic-ISS 600HM, 600 watts PSU and checked the BIOS, which recorded the 12v rail as 12.36v. :)

This unit is within -+3% vs the first PSU (Corsair), which was -+4%..:-D

It also seems the BIOS software, is effective in producing real and accurate numbers.

Unless anyone can add anything to this issue, case is closed. :wave

Using a multimeter will give voltages however using a multimeter to test if a PSU is dead or not isn't such a great idea.

I did it one year ago, when my older rig was sudden rebooting during Internet use...I had a -3% on 12v rail...I tested it starting with boot up and the last being under a load..

In any of the four testing stages, there was little if any changes in value (-+1%)...

I am going to do a google and see if there is an engineering thread on using multi-meter...
