Bad unistall affecting new install

I bought a computer off a friend that had Ahead Nero (v6) included, but I recently found out it was a demo version that had expired, and I did not have the code I was being asked for, and neither did my friend.

I have borrowed a copy of v7 off a friend, and prior to installation, went to uninstall the previous version. I located the Uninstall file via c:/Program Files, double clicked, and it opened up the Ahead Nero uninstall process. I clicked the Uninstall option, some things seemed to happen in the background, then all went silent. Aware that Unistall Shield usually runs, or that it usually takes longer than this, I went to Add/Remove Programs via Control Panel. Ahead Nero seemed to still be there, so I used Add/Remove program, and the program was removed from the list.

Now assuming that the Uninstall had taken place, I deleted the program files to make way for the new version.

The new version unpacked all the files OK, but then a box came up saying:
"In order to install Nero 7 Demo it is necessary to uninstall all Nero products except NeroNet and SIPPS. Click OK if you want all applications to be uninstalled automatically or click cancel if you want to uninstall manually"

Having clicked OK, three more boxes pop up at the same time, saying:

1. "Nero Media Player Uninstaller - Nero Media Player not detected on your computer"
2. "Installer - The installer has detected that another installation is running. Please finish installation and start installer again"
3. "Installer Info - In order to complete the installation the installer has to reboot your system now. Please close all other applications and click OK".

After clicking OK for all and rebooting, nothing then happens. I have used a RegCleaner downloaded from MajorGeeks to remove previous ahead Nero reg files, but to no effect.

How can I clear away all trace of previous installation, and get past this thing that says another Installation is runnig when it isn't?

Try downloading this reg cleaner. Once running, use the "find in registry" option and search for "Ahead" and then "Nero". Then pick action and delete them from registry. Make sure you have backup checked and that you look at each entry to make sure it is what you think it is. I use this to totally wipe all traces of un-installs.

Nero has several versions of a cleaning tool for the registry. Not sure which is the best but take a look here: http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/Clean_Tools.html

Since they produce such tools, yours is probably a common problem.
