Bad Virus

I planned on going through the tasks you recommend, but my situation may be unique. My son's computer had a pop-up for Winfix the other day. I then ran Ad-Aware. As it began scanning, it identified two modules, but then crashed and gave me a blue screen error (000021). I tried to run it in safe mode, but as the decision screen comes up asking if you want to run in safe mode (after the registry loads), it instantly disappears and I never get to the safe mode desktop. Norton recognized a trojanvundo virus and says it's removed. Other programs, such as TrendMicro's HouseCall stay idle when scanning. SpyBot also acts funny, but says there's no problem. I also can not use the restart command on the computer.

Should I reformat, or go through the steps you suggest?

Welcome to MGs!

If you cannot run the below in safe mode, run them in normal boot mode.

First run the steps in Virtumonde aka Trojan Vundo Removal and attach the requested log.

Then run all the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

- Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
