I have WondershareMobiletrans installed on my PC and it has successfully backed up my mobile content to Data D on the PC. However, everything has been saved as a BAK file. What can I use to open the backup as I cant seem to find anything which will do this? Thanks

Generally speaking, .bak files are backup files.
Unfortunately, backups created with a program more often than not require that program to open/restore the backup.
What type of phone are you trying to backup?

I'm using a sony xperia x5 compact. I was hoping to use Wondershare to back up a Samsung phone as well. I thought Wondershare was the answer to backing up texts, pics etc. Over the years of owning mobiles I have never yet been able to find a way to transfer messages texts as well as photos and videos etc. Any help or recommendations much appreciated.

I have been using MyPhoneExplorer for more than 4 years with 3 Samsung smartphones and now an LG smartphone.
I have all my contacts, messages, files (image, audio, video), notes, organizer & logs on my PC.
You can connect your phone via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB cable.

Hi Eldon. I will give it a go. When MyPhoneExplorer saves the phone content to the PC is it in a readable file format? Thanks

    Yes.
You can view your images, play your videos & music, read your messages, etc.
You can save your images, videos, music & contacts all in regular formats.
This software is second to none.

Hi Eldon. After a small hitch ( the application couldn't find the phone I'm now connected). I can see all my contacts but I've
and have been looking for a manual as I cant find how to view and save my photos and messages from the phone to the PC. Can't even find a decent one on YouTube. I can see an option to view messages but when I click the Archive option the messages disappear. How do I save them and my photos?

If you are using Windows 7, go here: C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Roaming\MyPhoneExplorer
Windows 8/8.1 or 10 will hopefully be similar.
You'll find all your photos, videos & voice recordings. Unfortunately your messages & contacts will be in .dat files. However, you can open them Notepad and skipping all the junk you'll see your messages.

What I have done is this:
Click File > Settings > Advanced 2 and under Folder for Photo-sync, select a folder. All your photos & videos will then also be synced/saved over there.
Right-lick one of your contacts and then Export/Import > Export entire phonebook... and your contacts will be saved as .vcf files which is the standard format.
That's because you haven't archived any messages.

    Lastly, here's the support forum.

While there's no help file, the program is quite easy to use.
And I will help when possible.

    Just for fun...
Click Extras > Control phone / Screen mirroring.
Click an icon in the 'image' and... Enjoy.

jannie3, I just found an easier way to save your messages in a regular format.
Select Conversations in the left pane, expand the messages you want to save on the right, right-click one of the messages > Export/Import > Export selected messages..., and select the format you want.

I just do not understand, I need to do manually backup when I connect phone to the computer or it is done automatically in the program on the computer and on the phone?

    The backup is done manually.
    There's also an automatic sync.

Hi all. As a complete non-geek I am still having problems understanding how to use myphoneexplorer. Can anyone give a step-by-step guide on how to transfer my photos from the phone to the PC (I'm using Windows 10).? I don't know if the photos have saved or where to look for the saved copies on the PC. I wish there was a help guide somewhere to using the interface but I cant find one at all.

In MyPhoneExplorer, have you clicked File > User... > Add user?
Then, on the left of MyPhoneExplorer click Files. In the toolbar at the top click the second icon (Sync photos).
    Then go to C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Roaming\MyPhoneExplorer.

Eldon thanks again. This has worked. Do I do the same thing (ie Sync) to save the rest of the stuff on the phone to the PC ?

I prefer manual sync by clicking the Synchronize or Download entire icon. You have to click Contacts > Sync, Call log > Sync, etc.
    MPE_Sync.jpg
Or click File > Settings > Multi-sync and select the sync settings you want - I can't advise you as I don't use this feature.
The support forum should be helpful.
