Any baseball fans out there? What teams are you following, if so? Favorite players?

I myself grew up watching and playing baseball, and love it.

I`ve been a Yankee fan since 1965...but my favorite team is anyone that`s playing against the Red Sox. As for favorite players...Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada...ARod too...but there`s a lot of others I admire too. Such as guys like Albert Pujols...Jim Edmonds...Vladimir Guerrero...obviouslythese guys all have talent...but they bust thier a**es on every play and that`s what it`s all about. Say what you want about a guy like Pete Rose. Granted he did some things he shouldn`t have but he`s my all-time favorite player...because he ALWAYS busted his butt. I myself played organized ball in one form or another for over thirty years and even my last game I bled for the team. Any player that breks his a** to help the team gets my respect. Unless he`s a Red Sox player. Gawd I hate those guys.

i was a METS fan when i was in grade school but i can't watch baseball anymore... it just doesn't excite me enough... i find myself getting very boring waiting from pitch to pitch...

as for now, i'm anxiously awaiting the start of the new N.H.L season in early October... very curious to see if the new proposed rule changes are going to spark offense and spice up the game

    who's your home team Controlmind?

I've been watching the NY Rangers since '92... been a very depressing last 7 years of not making the playoffs for us... seen all my favorites come and go (Gartner, Messier, Graves, Leetch, Kovalev, Richter)... 2 seasons ago we had spring cleaning and dealt away ALOT of players... i guess it was in preparation for the salary cap (being is that we had one of hte highest payrolls)... i hope they produce some results this year... but nonetheless, i'll be anxious to watch just about any of the teams play....

i'm living in MD now so i won't get many Ranger games, unless i can muster up the money to get Comcast's NHL Season Ticket (think that's waht it's called).

sorry to hijack this thread, we can talk baseball and hockey simultaneously =]

was just checking out the Blackhawk's roster... i see you guy have Matthew Barnaby... he was on the Rangers 2 years ago... that guy might not be a finesse player and he might not be the best fighter in the league but one thing is for sure, he plays with all his heart everynight... he's one of the best agitators in the league and really doesn't back down from anybody.... he creates ALOT of drama which really makes for an exciting game.... hope u guys enjoy him, i know us Ranger fans did!

Matt Barnaby is a team guy...the type that`d skate through the zamboni. He was drafted by and played for the Buffalo Sabres (my boys) for years. I was saddened to see him go he`s the type of player every team needs. Score you an occasional goal and really piss off the other team.

Hockey??? What's all this hockey talk? :p

So Sasquatch...you seem to be a huge fan of the Red Sox then? Johnny Damon posters on your wall? :D

I myself am a Nats fan--loving having a baseball team at home now! It's actually a lot of fun, because they're fighting for first place over the Braves (I HATE the Braves!). Looks like they're on a bit of a slide lately, but have been red hot all season long.

Out of curiosity, Sasquatch, I'd imagine as a Yankees fan (I assume you live in the NYC area), can you find Yankees games on TV? I ask because it seems strange to me that the Nationals are almost never aired out here. Even last night when the game vs. the Braves was on TBS, the TBS airing was blacked out, but the channel wasn't airing anywhere else, either.

I`m actually west....near Buffalo. The "park" the Red Sox play in is a large part of my dislike for the red sox. I could lead the league in doubles there....a glorified softball park with rats the size of medium-sized dogs. UGH!!!

As far as Yankee games on TV...the Yankees have thier own network...it`s called YES (nice acronym for Yankees Entertainment Sports Network) If they don`t carry the games we get them on FOX, UPN or a local channel.

I do have a Johnny Damon poster...along with a Carl Yaztremski one...they take turns on my dart board.

lol! Seems you feel pretty strongly there.

Yeah, I figured as much about the Yankees. Glad for you that you get to watch them out in Buffalo even (cold up there!). The way it's worked out in DC, Comcast is trying to squeeze a few extra pennies out of the TV deal and as a result of their snivelling at the negotiating table, the entire DC fanbase is forced to read about the Nats in the next morning's newspaper. The games aren't airing!

You have a Johnny Damon poster on your dart board--I've got a Comcast one. Last night we played the Braves--you might have noticed, since you probably got the game on your TBS station. We here in the DC area all flipped to TBS too, hoping that we might actually get to watch the game. No such luck. Blacked out. Makes absolutely no sense! We fight to get the team here, we fill seats every game (averaging about 30,000/game), but those of us who can't make it to the stadium every game aren't able to cheer on our Nats.

How would Yankees fans react if Comcast was dragging their heels and trying to make a few extra bucks and as a result you went half a season without being able to watch a Yankees game (nevermind that this is the Nats' first season in DC, and that they're in a race to win the East)?

The Yankees are the only baseball team in existence, right? Oh and yeah, Jeter is all that. ;)

Jeter IS all that...and excuse me for being a Yankee fan...but 40 years of being a fan makes it a bit difficult not to be.:D

Ahh, see I can respect that then. Anyone who stuck with the Yankees through their drought in the 80s is okay by me. It's the ones that jumped on the bandwagon in the last 3 or 4 years that make my head spin.

Been trying to follow my Nationals the last few days, though it's been tough since the entire Atlanta series was blacked out and only one of the Marlins games aired (thanks Comcast!).

Looks like they've turned their slump around with their win against Florida Sunday and open a series against LA tomorrow. Hopefully they can come back and get back in the race. They're 5 games out behind Atlanta at the moment.

Just wanted to bump this--my Nationals had a HUGE game last night, which included their first ever grand slam!!!

I even got to watch it! They aired the game last night for a change, which was awesome. According to the newspaper we're going to get a few more aired over the weekend, on UPN.

Somehow I don't want to get my hopes up, and to be honest am not going to go out of my way to try to watch--too many times I've seen it noted in the paper that they'd be on and scheduled my day around the game only to find it blacked out. Bah Comcast, just bah.

Anyway, looks like the Nats are regaining momentum. Hopefully they can get back on track.

If baseball is any thing like football……for football, the game has to be sold out by Friday noon, and the game is being played on Sunday, to make it on TV…….I’m a Oakland Raiders since 1963, and can’t afford the price of tickets, and since they don’t sell out home games, don’t get to see them much………it might be the same with baseball………wobbles

……..and I’m both a fan of the Oakland A’s, and the San Francisco Giants……I get to see about half of the home games for the A’s, and most of the away games…….and 80 percent of the Giants home games, and just about all of the Giants away games……..

The blackout rules for MLB are very different from the NFL, mostly because the NFL only has 8 or so home games to sell out. MLB has 80. There's no way they can expect to sell out a Thursday afternoon game, and they recognize that fact. At any rate, in every other baseball market I've ever lived (Astros, Rockies, Cubs/White Sox, Red Sox, and by extension down here, Orioles) in I've been able to watch the home team at the very least when they're on the road, and usually most of the time when they're at home. But here, because of the nonsense going on with Comcast, we're lucky to get one a week, and come to think of it, I don't think it makes a difference if it's an away game or a home game.

Did get to watch them shatter the Rockies yesterday though, which was nice. Good to see the Nats producing some offense. I think they outscored the Rockies somewhere close to 30-3 in their sweep in Colorado over the weekend.
