You should ask the owners to remove Vista and XP from the "Requires" list Eldon. That's a little misleading since the script won't support Windows versions prior to 7.

It's amazing that the script was already downloaded 550 times in the last few hours :) Seems it attracts attention.

I got that exact position with a new XP Pro sp3 VM.
I do remember there was a way to re-direct the checker to an on-board copy, I think, of the XP cd.
I know Eldon has had enough, at present, but thought it worth noting, as,-If te copy was on-board, I have a hunch it could work- in other words , if I can find the re-direct method , I will come back on this- Like most on here, I hate not solving something when it is so close.

I have vague recollections of that too, but if your one and only XP CD is pre-SP1, as mine is, having a copy on-board is of limited use, isn't it?

Possibly might still work, but, has to be tried to know , as I believe it just has to be the same version (home/pro, not necessary to be the updated version) but, as far as I can scrape out of the memory box, it was copying the i386 file, and directing the sfc scan to that file, but I just cannot remember now, to root, I think- but, as Eldon idea was for new-bies, they would not have done that, and it would complicate things too much, and therefore defeating his objective- however , if they had the cd, it might work- I have everything on usb, now,and in iso form, so, I have not got many original cd's, now- only Windows 7 Ultimate.
Still,if someone has the original cd, they could try it, and see if the desktop file gets filled in, or, not, if they want to, and not blank, like us.
If I can find a cheap one around of XP SP3, then I might have a go, just out of interest.
Still between them, after Eldon,s great idea, a good tool for newbies.
Great to see it on Majorgeeks as a majorgeek tool!

I'll try it in my VM and see if it only asks for the CD the first time. Might be a day or two though.

@baklogic, I admire your persistence. And I'm the same.

While this can be made to work on WinXP, it's not that simple.
I did go through some old notes and found a little info.

The i386 needs to be copied to the root of the C:\ drive. Copying it from C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache is pointless - those are the files you want to check. You'll have to copy the folder from a WinXP disc (if you have one) or from a recovery partition (I have not seen a WinXP PC with this).
Then check the following registry key.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
The SourcePath value data must be C:\
