Bazil

When I lived in England I had a cockatiel called Bazil (from Bazil Fawlty), but when I moved to the US I had to re-home him. He went to some South African friends who love birds and missed theirs from when they moved, and he is having a great time with them.

My son just sent me this photo of Bazil he took before I ever knew I was moving to the US. Just made me a laugh, so I thought I'd share it...it is Friday after all

I ha a Cockatiel called 'Chirpy' (coz that's the sound he made, eh). Died about 2 years back (I think). He was a good pet. He was about 12 years old when he died, which I was told was a ripe old age for Cockatiels, so I didn't have as a much of a guilt trip after that.

Never had a cockatiel, but did have a couple of parakeets, that loved to live on my shoulder, or perch in the side piece of my glasses. My neighbor has 3 of them. Neat birds.

As he is my flesh and blood, I think worrying about corruption of his mind is already too late

@G.T - Bazil settled in really well to his new home when I moved. So much so they now take him OUTSIDE on their shoulder into the back yard and he flies around, but never away...always comes back. I never did that with him. It's kind a sweet as the males are ususally one-person buddies, and yet he has taken to his new family so well.....now the dog has stopped wanting to eat him lol.

 

Hey Tim, just because Nathan has grown up and come to converse with us Adult Geeks doesn't mean you can, now put that software soother back in a go play with the other one year olds in the software playpen.

Does anyone have or know of one that keeps plucking his own feathers?

Yes...the males do that usually because they get bored, but if you get them a buddy, they usually fight. Let him out his cage more, buy him some new toys and chat to him more...vary his diet. All good stuff

 

Well, glad my Cockatiel wasn't a plumage plucker.

I want one of Halo's wine filled plastic dolls.

Lev, you probably already know (being a Bazil Fawlty fan) that there is a triple DVD boxed set of all episodes of Fawlty Towers.

I bought a bird exactly like him for my niece a few years ago.

Kool bird, though he nips your ears and has a foul mouth.

Still he's neat!

 

Cockatiels will only learn to say what they hear repeatedly......

Mine said "Hello Baz", "kiss kiss", "Clever boy", and "Merry Chris"......his pooor little lungs couldn't cope with the whole merry christmas thing and he ran out of breath before he made it to the end of that one lol

 

My ex's male cockatiel has a good vocabularly (clean).
Have to teach him "Hello Baz" LOL. Bazza
