Be ware of 87 gasoline the unleaded.

Last Few weeks i have been getting issues with my card Starting / Studdering i think there might be some thing wrong with the Mix my care is a 2000 sunfire 2.2 i have been running it on 87 gasoline for years and years and now all of the suddon i am having issues with my car not starting or really bad stutters.

I was not Getting any kinda Errors on my cars Computer no check engine light was coming on so i could not figure out what the issue was.

I changed the Spark plugs and wires thinking that was the issue Well it was not the issue it still kept doing the studder while starting thing. And some times it would not kick over.

So this week i went to 88 gasoline the mid grade and i am not having a issue at all.

So Be aware of the cheaper gasoline 87.If your not getting and Computer Error readings on your cars computer then its most likely the gas.

It could be buildup in your engine. When was the last time you put in some fuel injector cleaner? Pretty much everyone I know uses 87 octane because of cost, and no one has mentioned a problem like yours. Of course, it could also be the brand, unless you go to different stations.

I did recently have a friend with a similar problem whose fuel pump was going, but none of the dashboard lights came on and it didn't show up during computer diagnostics (his is a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan). Turns out that's because there was a small crack in the fuel pump that didn't open unless it got above a certain temperature.

Of course, all of this is anecdotal at this point, so who knows...it might be better to bump up to the mid-grade 89 octane anyway. :)

Engine was rebuilt last year and i just put some Fuel injector cleaner in 2 weeks ago.

Yeah but it was my Gas pump then the computer would read a error.

I still think its a Bad Gas Mix they kinda do that every once in a while.

Fuel storage tanks at the station do sometimes build up condensation, so possibly you got some water in with your gas.
Why I stick to only one station if I have a choice.

I do not know if gas octane ratings are different in the USA but i have to run my auto on 95 octane or it drives like a piece of :crap, it is a 2011 Toyota Rav4 2.2 litre

Try a higher Grade next fill up see if that helps.i all so think that the 95 Octane and the 87 unleaded are the same but not sure.
Not sure on how the gas is in other country's

And it might be water issue but i don't think it is.

Nt sure how true this is; however I've heard it's not a good idea to buy gas at a station that has a tanker truck there delivering gas.

The logic is that the gas being pumped into the storage tanks stirs up water, dirt and other crap sitting at the bottom of the storage tank. After the storage tank is filled, the crap once again settles to the bottom of the tank.

It's also a good idea to fill up at a station that sells a good amount of gas (fresher). My car isn't picky - it runs fine on 87 octane and I usually fill up at a supermarket (Kroger, H-E-B, etc.) where gas is a few cents cheaper.

@ Goldenskull. This is true. Could be dirty valves or throttle plate. Buy a spray can of combustion chamber cleaner and try that.
And the fuel injectors. The injector cleaner you pour in your fuel tank doesn't work. If it is the injectors, money well spent is getting a flush at reputable garage.

Higher octane fuel doesn't usually make car start better. It takes more heat to burn that stuff. I'd switch back to the 87 and try it again. Could've been water like hrlow said.

The 95 is a Research Octane Number, whereas the 87 is an Octane number. 95 RON is equivalent to 91 Octane. 91 RON = 87 Octane.

Bit like you Bill the UK runs on 95 or 98 RON only, we do not use lower quality petrol for our engines, think 87 RON would kill my petrol turbo engine.

I have a car that was dogging big time. Very underpowered, was giving the check engine light. I forget the code at the time but it was fuels related. On a whim I bought some GTP (Guaranteed To Pass) fuel additive. It's not really even billed as an injector cleaner. About half way through the tank it got so bad it almost stalled, then a thud, big puff of smoke out the back end and the car took off. Been running fine ever since. I've tried lots of other injector cleaners and have never seen any difference what so ever. Maybe using GTP was coincidence, I don't know. But I did pass my emissions test the next day even though the instructions say to drive the tank empty then fill then test.

Running 87 Octane in your Pontiac may be the very issue. I have always been fussy and only burn namebrand gasoline in my vehicles. I had better results in any GM (Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick) I owned using better gas. The few pennies per gallon gave better MPG so it was a trade off.
