Beginner question re XP Home

I have a problem with my Sony Vaio running XP Home. On booting up, even with no applications running, the CPU usage is maxed out at 100%, and hence applications run very slow. I suspect a malware infestation. I will be applying the steps recommended in the READ & RUN ME FIRST post but just wanted to check one point. There are four user accounts on the PC, do I need to go through all the steps whilst logged in as each user in turn, or is it sufficent to do it just once? Thanks in advance for your advice

Yes all user accounts should be checked, but it is best to work on one at a time. Here is some important info though:

You do not need to run step 6 for ALL user accounts. Just run them on one.

Only accounts with administrator priviledges can be accessed in safe mode. So you will either have to make each count have admin capability while fixing or you will have to run steps on non-admin accounts in normal boot mode.

Some software only installs to the user account that it is installed from and will not be seen (no Desktop icons or not in the Start Menu) in the other accounts. For most programs you can just create a shortcut to the executable yourself and run it.

So pick the account you wish to start with and work thru until it is all fixed up before starting the other accounts.
