I have Windows XP 5.1, McAfee VirusScan 10.0, McAfee Firewall Plus 7.0, Spy Sweeper 5.2. My problem concerns being repeatedly redirected to antispyweb.net. The http address says about:blank but the properties lists it as being antispyweb.net. I have run VirusScan & Sweeper but the problem was not detected. I deleted cookies & temp. Internet files & also checked the box to delete off-line content. I have also downloaded SmitfraudFix, disabled System Restore, rebooted in SafeMode & ran SmitfraudFix. The problem continues. Please advise on fixing the problem. Thank you.

Hi and Welcome to the forum

The below guide is the best starting point to follow as it will get your PC to a point where we have a great idea of whats going on and how to resolve it, some of the steps may actually help clean up your PC without further intervention by our malware experts but do attach the requested logs as if its not cleaned up our malware guys will be able to post some further removal instructions for you,

At present we are a little short handed so it may or may not take a while to get to your losg but bare with us and dont bump your thread as we work from the bottom pages up :)

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Here is the HijackThis log. I ran into a problem with Bitdefender completing the scan, so I do not have that log for you at this time but will rerun it & post. In addition, Windows Defender did not find any problem. Thanks again for your help.

You must shut down Spy Sweeper before running this fix!

Please look in Add/Remove Programs for the following and uninstall them if found:

    MyWay

Now scan with HijackThis and check the boxes for the following entries:
( Make sure ALL browser windows are closed when you click FIX )

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost

    O2 - BHO: ASGP32.ASGP - {BB89F547-37EC-4920-880C-9D553B1C788C} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\asgp32.dll

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdateManager] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic\Update Manager\sgtray.exe" /r
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [0079771162663743mcinstcleanup] "C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\007977~1.EXE" C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\McAfee\INSTAL~1\cleanup.ini -cleanup -nolog

Again, make sure ALL browser windows are closed when you click FIX.

Now, Please boot into Safe Mode, be sure you have the Viewing of Hidden Files & Folders Enabled per the tutorial. Now, navigate to and DELETE the following if they should remain:

C:\Program Files\MyWay Delete this whole folder if it exist!

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\asgp32.dll

Next, run CCleaner to clean up cookies and temp files.

After you complete the above, REBOOT and proceed with the rest of this fix...

Finally, I would like you to flush your System Restore points. Please follow the instructions in the below:

    • Disable and Re-enable System Restore

    • Turn OFF System Restore to flush any bad Restore Points.

    • Then, follow the instructions at the bottom of the linked page to Re-enable the Restore Utility which will create a fresh restore point.
After you complete the above reboot once more and then scan with HijackThis and attach the new log.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now.

I attached the new hijack this log for your review. But... I am extremely happy to report that I think the problem was solved from the items you found to be fixed! I am not being redirected to that website at all since I've been online for the last 10 minutes or so & I've been searching around to see if it would. The interesting thing I noticed when I did have the problem is that if I was online via internet explorer I would have the problem but not if I went online via Mozilla's Firefox. But now it seems that there is no problem either way. Please do take a look at the new log & let me know if all looks good. Thank you SO MUCH for your help!
