Hi, I have been using my BenQ 162i EW on another laptop and went to install it on the one I also use. Both are xpsp3.
It has been sometime since I did the first install and I put my cd software in this other laptop and came up with no files that resembled what was on my former laptop.
That is, I had a folder on that laptop that I stored my "tech tool.exe" that BenQ (sent me via email) and who at that time were manufacturing and provided support fr. CA. My folder also had a file that was a drop down and gave me the choice to use either my internal drive or BenQ and it was always set to burn in DVD ROM (which I wanted, and there also was the firmware file of 47N which has been sufficient for this burners needs to work properly.
Well I installed the software CD and see nothing of that at all?
I am now desperately hoping to find a member that maybe able to help me.

All that I get from the software install is Nero, Q Video, Q Suite etc. and nothing like the BenQ file with the choice of burners via a drop down menu.
    I look forward to comments.
BTW, I googled for a couple of days here and can't seem to find anything relative to what I am trying to accomplish.
    Thank you and cheers!

One million "cudos" for your reply!!!
I thought that I was lost forever. I posted in a couple of other forums yesterday and no replies. I thought that I would try here as I have had success in the past re other issues!

Now I am wondering if you have the techtool.exe that BenQ sent to me when they were operational in CA re support for BenQ burners?
This identifies what firmare 47n etc. is installed?
Also wondered if the BenQ support is now no longer available on any site?

I am still satisfactorily using this burner and bought a second one as a spare when they went on sale a long time ago.
Just wondered how you were able to find this Book Management , should I find myself in this predicament again.
I really appreciate your prompt reply. It is a good day for me to try and get some setups done and getting the solution so fast is great!

I hope to hear from you again.... and wonder if there is anything else that I have to do to make sure that I am up and running again.

    Cheers and again cudos!! :)

Thx again "tgell,Major Geek". Yes that is the tool that BenQ sent me and it used to exist if my brain has not failed LOL... on the BenQ Global site.

You obviously know your detective work and are a "Google Maestro"!!

I have always been using 47N and understand that there have been additional firmware.
I am no geek as you can see and don't know if I should be updating my firmware or not?
I know they say if "it ain't broke don't fix it"...but I don't know about firmware?

Now that I have downloaded the book management, is this all that I have to do?
Pardon my lack of knowledge here. I use other purchased programs, besides Nero which is an older version and as well 1 Click Pro and a couple of others whose name escapes me.
I just want to make sure that when I get these up and running that I should be able to burn DVD's again. I still am in the set up stage of this laptop right now.

BTW, what is the most stable version of Nero 6? I had it on the other laptop and was satisfied, I am wondering if it is still out there for d/l.
Thx again and cudos for coming to the rescue of this short on experience burner user!!

I would not bother updating the firmware if you are having no problems. I am not sure what the most stable version of Nero 6 is. There last version according to Wiki is 6.6.1.15c but I believe it does not work well with Windows 7. I use Imgburn but to use it's full power you have to take time to learn it.

Edit: I believe the only way to get Nero 6 now is to order a disc from Nero.

In addition to tgell's excellent advice. which I would follow if I were you, older versions of Nero can be had here. http://www.oldversion.com/Nero.html. I'm sure that you will have to have a serial number to use them. Chances are that they will not work in Win7. :)

Thx for the replies, very very much. I am xpsp3 and so I think that the 6 version of Nero will work for me. I did know that there was a very stable version of Nero 6 and I had it on my other laptop but have now forgotten the version #.

I must say that I am very appreciative of the reply re the Book Management and firmware advice. Is BenQ Global not available as a site anymore? And if not, how is this info like Book Management and firmware available for d/l?
I thought I should ask in the event that this problem occurs again...i.e that I change laptops and go searching for BenQ help.
BTW, no one did reply to my posts in the other forums re my query here and yetwhen googling, I found that there had been discussions at these 2 forums earlier re this unit, anyway I requested that the threads be kindly closed. ( 5 Stars for Major Geeks!!)

The final query is....I don't really need QSuite, QVideo at all then...?which was my original belief and that I should just use Book Management with my Nero or my other licensed programs which I have yet to install, is that correct. It would have been best if Book Management had been sent or maybe it is in the software disc?

Again, thank you for your time, interest and genuine advice.

A trillion cudos! I am ecstatic to get this burner up and on the get go!

BTW, I apologize for the late reply, I had to head out with the family to cheer on our family "Little Leaguer" and he got a home run and his team won!
Cheers, we love sports "rain or shine"!! We must support our children, they are our future!

BenQ CD/DVD burner division was purchased by Lite-On years ago. But BenQ is still around. Luckily somebody still had the programs on their server which I found on Google. You can see the details of the IP address here. I am not familiar with Qsuite or Qvideo so I cannot answer that question.

Edit: I did a little more searching and found the BenQ support site for your burner.

Thx again very very much. You must have an Honorary Degree from Harvard in super sleuthing Google!
My results from Google were scant re BenQ at the best!
I indeed am thankful for your interest in my old relic burner, but one that I am most satisfied with.
As I mentioned, I was attracted to it after my researching...many moons ago b/c of "Book Management".

You appear very experienced in burners and so I thought that I should ask if with the new technology is Book Management available in all external burners? Can you recommend any, just so that I can have a list. I like to burn in DVD Rom. Cudos again!

Lite-on is a popular burner. I have a USB external drive that has been very reliable and Lite-on also has a utility for book type management.

Thx again very much, I will problably start looking around on the lite on and see what is available out there just so I know. I do have a second BenQ waiting in the wings but it worries me that I might not be able to find the Book Management Tool nor the firmware. I have saved it on this computer and hope nothing happens to this laptop.
I will also remember Major Geeks has a super sleuth when I comes to finding BenQ's hidden apps.
I again thank you for your efforts and will start doing some burning in the next little while. I do a lot of conversion from VHS to DVD since much of my collection of VHS, mostly old concerts are not available in DVD format. Me being a "Baby Boomer".
    Cudos again!!!)
