    Hi,

I have a kazuki DivX player, which I think I have fallen in love with because it has played EVERY avi I have thrown at it with NO sync issues.

    It even reads .srt files!

I decided I would like to give DvD to Avi a go myself so I got one of my legit DvDs and tried it with AutoGK first of all.

I set it converting in the morning, left it running, went out, came back 5 hours later and it was still going!!!! Took about 6 hours!!!

so I tried DvD Fab platinum and it converted the DvD to an Avi (claimed it was divx) in 40 minutes! It played perfectly on my computer so I burned it to a CD and put it in my DivX player and...... It didn't work :cry

It started the screen went balck then flickered and it reset my player, so I figured maybe it didn't like something I had converted it with so I tried changing the audio settings and it made no difference.

Unfortunately DvD Fab wont let me choose my codec and although it says it is a DivX avi, maybe I need to be a bit more specific.

I tried to convert the avi with an official DivX/Xvid converter and still had the same outcome.

I downloaded a recent version of Gordian Knot, which I assume is the same as AutoGK and it wouldn't convert straight from the DvD, but I also read if this thing is gonna take hours then it is not healthy for it to be accessing your DvD drive for this amount of time so....

I ripped the DvD to my hard drive using dvd Shrink which took about 10 minutes and have set it converting with Gordian Knot

It is currently at 51% of the second pass and has been going for about an hour and a half, so in total will prob take just over 2 hours!

This is better than 6 hours, but surely there is a quicker way or do people really spend all this time converting???

If DvD Fab had worked it would have been perfect!

Does any1 know of anyother software or methods?

    Thanks

(I will post back if the Gordian Knot version plays on my DivX player or not)

OK!!! I really am calling out to the MAJOR geeks on this one!

I was confident that the Gordian Knot version would work and the DvD Fab conversion would only not work because I was trying to cut too many corners!

After 2 and a half hours it had finished converting I burned it to a CD put it in expecting it to play and.... :cry :cry :cry IT DIDN'T!!!

Same old reset of my player!

Yet it plays EVERYTHING that I have ever downloaded, so I do not understand???

    HELP!!!

The reason why no one is answering is because, this forum does not support any forms of piracy.
But since im at it, i might as well suggest u using these few programs available. Winavi Converter, ImTooDVD Converter, AOA Dvd Ripper. These r few ones which does a fairly good job.

Im sure there plenty more available., but these r the ones im familiar with.:) :)

Thanks I appreciate your response! I will give those a try!

I would like to say though I may have been guilty of piracy in my time, (Atari ST days) but...

I own A GENUINE copy of a DvD that I want to rip to an avi, not to distribute, not to upload to the internet, but for the sheer shake of being able to do it!

I wanted to know if I could make my own DivX movie with subtitles from an exisiting DvD that I own.

I have made a break through though tonight instead of burning the avi to a CD I put it on my memory card, stuck that in my DivX player and it worked!!!!! :D :D :D

But the subtitles did not, they work in Windows Media Player Classic and they are in .srt format, so I don't understand??

Do you have to include instructions for an .srt file when converting to avi???

I think maybe there is incompatibility issues with infiniti 52x cd-r dics as I have only just changed to this brand, I have yet to test other avi's on them that worked before.

Maybe I should be trying a slower burn, any suggestions???

Thanks again I am gonna give ImTooDVD converter a go I have read good things about it!

Got the subtitles working on my memory card think it was something to do with the unicode!

Tested some1 elses avi on this brand of CDs on a FAST burn, with same software and theirs played????

So why will mine play on my computer, play from my memory card but not from the Disc!

I don't think I am gonna figure this 1 out! confused

I assume, that u have the subtile i.e. the .srt file separately. It should be a notepad with the file extension .srt or .sub, both of them works.

With that in mind, i would suggest u to 1st convert the DVD to avi files without including the .srt file. What program r u using to burn the movie file ??
In most cases, Nero works well.

So, that said, after conversion, open Nero, add the converted avi file alongwith the corresponding .srt file. Keeping in mind that the avi file and .srt file should have exactly the same name, except for the file extension. Then u simply burn it , and i guess this would work.

PS : Just for the record, most people convert the avi file to DVD format, and burn them in DVD discs. I have no idea why u're doing it the other way round.confused confused

    Hi

Thanks again for the response, I have done all that, made sure the .srt file was same name, added it seperately after conversion, burned with Nero....

It works WITH subtitles on my memory card but NOT on a CD, yet other peoples avi files do work on the same brand CD's burned with the same software????

I know that people normally do it the other way round avi to dvd, but I wanted to give dvd to avi a go to see how good it would be on my divX player and just for the sheer sake of being able to do it.

Now that I can't get it working it has become more of a challenge!!!

I have tried 3 different conversions, Auto GK, Gordian Knot and DVD Fab Platinum they all play PERFECT on my computer and claim that they are proper divX avis. I even converted it with the OFFICIAL divX converter and still had the same problemo!!!!

    confused

This might sound silly , but did u try clicking the Subtitle button while playing the movie. ?:D :D

    Yes,

I can turn the subtitles on and off when the avi is playing from my memory card and the avi plays perfectly on my memory card, but...

When the avi and srt file are burned to a CD the movie will not play whatsoever!!!! it's not that the movie will play but the subtitles will not work, the movie will not play at all.

It reads the CD as a cd-rom, it brings up the file directory menu, I can see the avi on the disc, I select it, it says "initialising" and then the screen goes black as if it's about to play, but then it flickers and resets the player???

    Really bizarre!!! rolleyes
