Best Firewall Software?

What is the best Firewall Software? Also, when I am about to download a Firewall, is it necessary to remove the Microsoft Firewall?

 

Popular free firewalls: ZoneAlarm, PCTools, AShampoo, Comodo, Jetico, Sygate. Maybe Sygate isn't free anymore (?). There was a rumor going around that they were going to start charging for it.... On my home PC, I run AntiVir7 for virus protection, SpyCatcher Express (from Tenebril) for spyware, and Sygate (I installed it over a year ago and have had no problems)... So, I guess I'm recommending Sygate; but all the ones I listed are very good....

And yes you do want to manually go in and disable the windows firewall, some firewalls will do it them selves, but just to be safe and prevent conflicts you want to also do it/check it manually. For the record, I myself have used zonealarm in the past.

 

I was told to download AVG for my Windows Vista is this a good one to use?

 

avg is antispyware not a firewall (i think)

but zone alarm is good

Avg does make a firewall version of it's anti virus program but it's not free.

 

Hi again , I tried to download Zone alarm free and window said it was not
compatibly with computer asked if i wanted to continue. Window posted to
re download with right settings clicked ok. Started that and in the middle of
the process the computer stopped. Don't know what to do.

 

I have tried a number of firewalls for vista the the best one on the current market is Sphinx Software's VistaFirewallControl. The other firewalls have either crashed my system, given BSOD, resourse hogs and do not pass leaktests. VistaFirewallControl is very light on the system has a small footprint and is very easy to use even for those who don't quite know how to use a firewall. I would recommend that those who are looking for a great Vista firewall give this one a try. You won't be disappointed.
