Best free DVD player with Screen Capture?

Hi,
I few years ago I looked at a couple of these & one of them put the captures in the temporary files which was very inconvenient.
I am looking for one that I can chose which file to put the captures in, & also one that hopefully has the step forward option.
Recommendations?

VLC is a popular one that does everything you mention and much more.

 

There was something about VLC that I really didn't like, but that was like 5 years ago so maybe it's improved. It lets me choose the file I want to put the captures in??

 

I am looking at the Screenshots on VLC Site & I don't see one for screen capture. It looks very basic. ?

 

Go to View > Advanced Controls

frame by frame control will appear...

This will allow you stop ona frame. To the right of the red dot is the camera button, use that to capture a frame and paste into graphics program

So is |MG| Gimp if you want a free high powered tool...

 

Actually that would be kind of a pain. I'm looking for a one touch kind of thing like PDVD has. With Paint I gotta paste it, name it, save it, then erase it, & the hit the tab when I need it again. Yes, I am planning to do a LOT of screen captures.
