    Hi,
I have heard many opinions on defragmenter software - which one is best?
    Thank you.

For free I like JkDefrag, can handle disks that are nearly full better than the rest. Didn't have any problems with Iobit or Aulogistics offerings either. Perfect Disk (30 day trial) worked the best I think, although the laptop had trouble finding boot files on first reboot after defrag. All available at a humble little foxhole called www.majorgeeks.com .

Personally, I use DiskKeeper Lite. It's also free here at MajorGeeks. I've been using it for years and have only one MINOR complaint: every so often it throws up a 'nag screen' telling you that you have X number of excess fragments and an ad for the Pro version. It's not a big deal, you just close it and go on your way. I tried IOBit and wasn't really impressed, same as with JK, but I did like JK better than IOBit.... I've been meaning to try some others like O&O or Auslogics, but haven't got around to it yet.....

Just noticed this when reading the article recommended by zbd21:

The built-in Windows defrag and Diskeeper both choked on my large files, particularly when the available disk space starts getting "low" (below 20%), and the free disk space starts getting broken up into smallish pieces.

He even wrote why he uninstalled Diskeeper, isn't this strange?

I had a better opinion of Diskeeper, just like you hopperdave2000
Anyway, everyone has is free to build up an opinion about his use of the software he tried (but some objectivity is required)

I know you want freeware, but I'm using O&O defrag10 for years, and boy is that awesome soft. You can do what ever you want with defraging. This is the best defrag for now.

I miss the old days, when you could defrag in DOS in a fraction of the time.

I've used many of the free apps out there and I continue to use Diskeeper Pro , mainly because of the other options with it. I have yet found any application that is satisfactory as Diskeeper Pro. Yeah, I know it's not free, but it works great to me.;)

Like I said earlier, I've been using DiskKeeper for years, and have no complaints, and it's fast. It takes under 5 minutes to defrag a 160gb SATA hard drive that's about 65% full. I defrag once a week, and never had trouble. And, again, like I said above, I plan on trying Auslogics very soon, and if I like it better, I'll stick with it..................
