Best Overall: Toshiba Laptop or HP Laptop

In general, which laptop brand is best overall?
(Sorry, I know it's incredibly vague ... the laptop would mainly be used for surfing and e-mail).
Thanks, opinions appreciated!

No contest! Toshiba (IMHO) is way better than HP. The only other laptop that can compete with Toshiba (as far as the mass produced major market PC's are concerned) would be Sony. But a custom built Asus or Acer can be real good too

Dollar for Dollar especial that now again the CDN$ is on par with the USA$ I would have to say the Dell Laptop hands down especially for normal day to day use. I have been really impressed with the one I got my wife last Xmas.

And No, I am not a big Dell fan, would never by any of their desktops.

Our Youngest will get hers next summer for High School, and I will not hesitate to buy her another Dell Laptop. Thats my $0.02 worth

 

I'd also go for a low end Dell, there's no point in spending big bucks just for what you want to use it for. Get one with XP installed (IIRC they're supporting this for now) with 512MB RAM (at the very least 256MB). My gf bought a D120 a couple of years ago and it has worked flawlessly since, it's slow since she only has 128MB RAM but she doesn't mind.

 

I prefer Toshiba to Hp, but mainly because I know, and have worked twice for, the Toshiba reseller. His shop is only a few hundred yards from me. Both load lots of their crap on your laptop. You may have to sort it out.

My Toshiba Tecra A7 Duo Core (with 2 gigs of Ram) laptop (18 month's old) has worked well. Only problems have been me, as usual. Bazza
