I'm looking for rechargeable AA batteries that will give me the most bang for the buck.
I've purchased cheap batteries in the past and I suppose that I got what I paid for.

Going for a brand is pretty irrelevant get the batteries with the largest Amp hour rating AH or mAH,if you aim for some NiMH around the 2500 mAH mark you won't go far wrong.

As important as the batteries is the charger,if you get good batteries and charge them in a three buck charger they won't last long,so get a charger that can detect when batteries are charged and will shut itself off,the best chargers have voltage, current and thermal over charge protection.

It depends how much you wanna spend but its worth spending more on the charger than the batteries IMO.

One of my sets of rechargeable batteries are Ray-O-Vac. They came with a little USB charger.
They never seem to hold a charge, even after they have been on all night. The instructions say to charge them for 8 hours.

Everedy has some good NiMH batteries that I use all me in my digital camera and MP3 player. But I also got the batteries with their rapid charger too.

I use Eneloops and they outlast both the Duracell and Energizer batteries I've tried. Going by the Mha rating is like just looking at how many gallons a gas can would hold and not about how well it holds it.

Eneloops are the hybrid type of battery. The older type of rechargeable battery started losing it's charge as soon as you took it off the charger. Eneloops will retain over 70% of their charge after a year of sitting on the shelf. So even though they are only 2000 Mha batteries there's going to be more power available to you to use when you want it. It's like comparing a 2 gallon gas can that leaks to a 1.5 gallon gas can that doesn't. Which will have more gas when you need it.

If you're not brand specific you can use any battery that's "pre-charged".
