Anyone have suggestions for a (free) service to backup my files? --Using Windows XP.

Couldn't find a subheading on the main page.

    Thanks in advance... BG

    XP home or Pro?

To what media type? I.E., CD, DVD, TAPE, HDD, floppy.

    Ah yes, details...

    Win XP Pro
Actually, I was looking for an on-line service to store MS Word & Excel docs + a ton of jpgs

I know that xp pro has a built in backup solution (xp home does to, but requires the xp home cd)...

But, that is not what you want.

Have you thought about the Gmail-drive?

I believe my son mentioned that once to me...so, essentially an unlimited amount of storage space?

What about Mozy? Is it safe? I am sure there are competitors out there - I trust MG...does MG have some sort of 'favorites' list?

    Thanks! --BG

BTW, I forgot to thankyou for visiting MajorGeeks, and posting here.

    Welcome!

Personally, the safest method is to use offline storage. As in copy your data to a cd or hard drive, that you can move to a safe location.

But, I know a few people who use the gmail-drive all the time.

What I can say, that is hosted here is:

You are probably right about having external storage. I have known for quite a while that I should be more diligent about saving data, but alas - I am lazy! My son insists that I should have an external drive for just such a cause, but I always find better things to do...or spend money on!

--I think MG is a fabulous resource and have been depending on it for a couple years now after suffering a major virus/spyware hit. The guys over at the Dell forum suggested this site and I have been a devotee ever since. For some reason, I never thought to look at the forums! I am fascinated with all the info!

    Thanks! --BG
