    Hello,
my neighbour is having some PC problems and asked me to have a look, I found a lot of spyware on there ,so removed , but he said that Warcraft still runs slow.
The PC is a Dell optiplex 150 running 996MHz with 256MB SDram.
I said the pc spec will not help, so he is looking to get a new one, but in the meantime are there any tweaks i can do to Windows to get the game to run faster please?

Also he runs Norton security suite, is the gamers edition faster?

the security suite has more things running therefore, it will be more sluggish than just having the antivirus/gamers edition. i'm not sure how to get more out of that computer for games. do you know what video card? more ram will help, but not sure for the game.

What is the best firewall, that uses the least resources?
I intend to use Avast AV, but would like a recomendation on firewall please

ZoneAlarm and Comodo are both very popular firewalls. You can find them on the MG software list here.

You may also want to mention to your neighbor that he needs way more RAM and CPU power if he plans to make games a long-term habit. 1GHz and 256MB will not last him very long.

yeah what mimsy said is the problem hes having. his computer is rather out dated, so he might see a small performance increase by running warcraft on low settings.

    Cheers, for the replies,
He has ordered another PC now, but this has boot problems,
Will look to installing these programs on the new system.

You should keep in mind that there is a huge difference between Warcraft and DotA or Tower Defs. Custom maps use way too much resources, so on a 256ram and 1ghz pc he will be able to play Warcraft at lowest possible settings, and that's if he has a 64/128mb GeForce or similar, everything else will fail ;)
