Best way to clean out computer?

Hi,

I need to clean out my computer, and was wondering if you all had any tips, hints, etc.

I keep a lot of flacs on my HD, but was wanting to get rid of old, unnecessary junk. Like the other day, I had 5 gb free, now I have 3.8 for some reason. A whole gig just disappeared. I installed a couple programs, but uninstalled the ones I didn't want when I found a good one, and they weren't even big programs, so I can't figure it. I did install a casino software, though, so that might be something, but I uninstalled it, and deleted everything.

CCleaner and Regseeker come to mind, also disabling "System Restore" then re-abling it and creating a new restore point will sweep away a fair amount. Advanced Window Care2 will also get rid of some other garbage. ALL are available here at MG. Hope that Helps

 

I've been testing HDcleaner for a few weeks . . . seems to work pretty well - it appears to really dig in and root the crap out. No problems thus far with it.

I also use CCleaner and swear by it. Not used Regseeker but I intend to check it out. I've used Tweaknow RegCleaner with good results.

BCGray is dead on about clearing old restore points. This is a very useful feature in XP, but it's amazing how much space it can eat up over time.

 

Since you said you have been installing programs might take a good look at your temp folders, they need to be cleaned out often if you install a lot of stuff then delete it, the program recomended above (TweakNow) is great at cleaning things up. And don't forget your registry, adding and removing programs will make your registry huge!
